In the present economic climate it has been necessary for us to adopt a budget for the 1969-1970 fiscal year in which we anticipate a further increase of approximately ten percent. The Association must continue to increase the scope and effectiveness of its activities if it is to preserve its proud tradition and its responsible place in the community. Indeed, many of the economies we have been forced to adopt are even now beginning to affect adversely our efficiency and the maintenance of our House. It has long been the policy to keep our dues, which provide over two-thirds of our revenue, reasonable in amount. Rather than to have our dues increased at this time, we believe our members would prefer to make voluntary con- tributions of ten percent of the amount of their dues. A similar suggestion was well received by the membership in 1961 and it is the Executive Committee's belief that our membership will again respond generously. The Executive Committee emphasizes that these contributions should be voluntary and without any compulsion, moral, social or otherwise. The mak- ing of a contribution or the absence of one will be treated as confidential. In making your contribution, you will have the satisfaction of promoting not only the welfare of the Association but the welfare of our profession. Sincerely yours, FRANCIS T. P. DORLAND DOYLE PRESIDENT 825 FIFTH AVENUE NEW YORK 10021 fre Golf Club RN a February 4, 1969 To the Members of Deepdale: At a meeting of the Board of Governors held at the Links Club on December 16, 1968, I tendered my resignation as President. I feel that after fifteen years in office, it is time to step aside in favor of a new President. During those fifteen years, we were forced to relocate because the then new Long Island Expressway criss-crossed part of the old Deepdale and destroyed its wonderful layout. Today, we have a championship course designed by the late Dick Wilson and a great Clubhouse all free and clear- no mortgages and no loans. Had we stayed at our former site, we would have had to practically rebuild the Clubhouse and try to design or rearrange a golf course - all subject to much higher school and real estate taxes. I have enjoyed my fifteen years in office and my part in creating a new Deepdale. My thanks to Messrs. Allen, Bergen, Lloyd and Wenzel and the many others who have helped in the making of our present Club. I plan to stay on the Board and do anything I can to help the Club. I trust that the Members will enjoy Deepdale for many years to come. Sincerely, M. Dorland Doyle SUJ) YAS AOSJAS ! AMROLIAD / NDABE-TROSWEN BALBOA BAY CLUB NEWPORT BEACH . CALIFORNIA Mrs. Richard M. In sending you the enclosed membership card for 1969, may I take the opportunity to remind you that our financial standing a year from now will depend on your continued support of Lotos functions-our State Dinners, receptions, luncheon and evening Round Tables, and other informal and friendly events that we all so enjoy? The benefit to our Club's treasury is simply an extra dividend beyond the pleasure gained from the events themselves. May I also remind you that hosting or sponsoring other parties or meetings for your company, organizations to which you or your family belong, and various social occasions, are another way we can all help Lotos. You know how well events of many kinds are managed and how splendidly Victor, our chef, makes them memorable. And do not forget that, though the Clubhouse is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, it is available for larger parties on those days. The cost of a Lotos party is usually lower than you would find elsewhere, and the friendly, expert service is widely known even beyond our membership. Again my best wishes for a year that will give you everything you want. Cordially, Porru Norris W. BOTOLPH THE LOTOS CLUB 5 EAST STREET NEW YORK, N. Y. 10021 January, 1972 Dear Fellow Member: Enclosed is your membership card for 1972. May I direct your attention to the listing of our affiliate clubs. Should you wish to use their facilities, please request a card of intro- duction from the Secretary's office. When it is forwarded, a list of the clubs' addresses and some details of their facil- ities will be provided. Last March we concluded our year-long Centennial celebration. A feature of the year was the publication of the Centennial Book of which Vice President Spiro Agnew said, "It is one of the most interesting publications of a club I have ever seen;" during his speech at the State Dinner in his honor he liber- ally quoted from it. A goodly number of members, particularly those who have only enrolled in the past year do not have a copy of this book, and these are available. As of last April we began our second hundred years. We sense a new pride in the Lotos Club and the stimulation of the chal- lenge of a new Lotos century. Working together, the general membership, the Officers and Directors which you have elected, plus our loyal staff members, can bring the Lotos Club to new heights of achievement. On behalf of all of the Officers and Directors, I wish to thank each of you individually, and all of you collectively, for your support last year. May the year 1972 bring you and your family good health and much happiness. Sincerely yours, Edward Y Scheider Edward J.
