THE NIXON ANCESTRY
There IS considerable divergence of opinion as to the early history of the name -Nixon It was subject to many
changes as Nicholl. Nicholson MacNicholl, Nicholas, Nickson and Nickerson. The name was derived from the Irish words
meaning. "He faileth not."
One of the names was granted Armes as far back as 1660 and ranked as Eigneurs de Claye. Their motto was "Ere
bon expoir."
James Nivon. the earliest Nixon found ⑉ this country in 1752 died in Brandywine Hundred, Delaware in 1775
George Nivon. Sr., was born in 1752. married Sarah Seeds in Wilmington, Delaware. He served as private ensign and
lientenant in the Revolution with Washington and participated in the famous crossing of the Delaware. He bought 224
aeres for $1600 in which Washington, Par is partly located. He moved to Washington Co., Pa., in 1803 and on to Clinton
Co., Ohio. in 1530.
George Viton, Jr., was born ID 1790. and came to Washington County. Pa. in 1803. He married Hannah Wilson
in 1507

George NAOH III. was born in a log cabin 111 what is now Washington, Pa. This cabin was taken down in 1913. He
married Margaret Ann Trummer in ISSI the lifteenth child of Anthony Trimmer. In 1853 be moved with his family to
Vinton Counts Ohio In 1861 he enlisted IN Company B 73rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was fatally wounded on
July 3. 1563 at Gettysbung and died and is burned in Gettysbung Memorial National Cemetery. He left the following
children
Martha Lazza Palmer Samuel Brady. Hiran Eliba Boss.
