Dear Rose:
This is a note to thank you for the prompt at-
tention you and the President gave to my recent request
for execution of various papers in connection with Elmer's
Foundation. A meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow.
You can imagine, I am sure, how important these seemingly
small matters are to those immediately concerned. All are
grateful for your help.
As ever,

Herb feels that the salary of Mr. Leo Dull (supervisor in the

As you will note from the attached letter he is also

Dear Rose:
This letter is written to request a $50 per month
increase in salary for Mr. Leo Dull. As you may recall,
in January of this year we were authorized to employ Mr.
Dull on a month-to-month contract basis at the rate of
$200 per month to be a working supervisor in the landscape
mainteance area at the Western White House.
Mr. Dull works part-time for the Golfing Friends,
overseeing the golf course. For this he is paid at the
rate of $900 per month (he was just given a $100 per month
increase). The balance of Mr. Dull's time is spent in
working with and supervising Mr. Garcia (the President's
personal gardener/handyman) and Mr. Martinez (Secret Service
contracted gardener assigned to the compound).
Mr. Kalmbach recommends that Mr. Dull be given
an increase of $50 per month which will bring his compensa-
tion up to a monthly rate of $250, to be paid out of the
President's personal funds. Would you please advise me
if we should effect this salary increase. If so, would an
effective date of November 1, 1973 be acceptable and desir-
able? Please let me know if you need any additional infor-
mation or if there is any way in which I can be of further
assistance.
Cordially,

Attached is a copy of the amendment to the original

to the agreement that we have with AMF. Also attached
is a copy of a memo that I sent to the head of the
White House Bowling League making it absolutely clear
that the President will be picking up the $20 per month
cost of the third alley.
I think the easiest way to handle this would be to
pay a full year's rent by simply sending a check to

Re: Amendment to Pinspotter Lease
Gentlemen:
We wish to amend the Letter Agreement between you and AMF
dated July 2S, 1959, which relates to the leasing of two
AMF Automatic Pinspotters in the Executive Office Building
of The White House, in the following two respects:
1. The two pinspotters installed on December 17, 1967,
shall be deemed to be replacements of the two pinspotters
installed back in 1959, and shall be covered by all the
terms of the Letter Agreement.
.
2. Commencing July 1, 1973, the Letter Agreement
shall be deemed to cover not only the two pinspotters now
installed in the Executive Office Building but also the
pinspotter and bowling lane installed in the Executive
Mansion on March 5, 1973.
Naturally all other terms and conditions of the Letter
Agreement shall remain unchanged.
If the foregoing is acceptable to you, please execute and

Please note the enclosed copy of a letter written by our Pastor,

regarding the use of this property.
I am very sorry that we are late in our payments. There was an
uncertainty in my mind as to where to send the payments in May.
When I brought this matter to the attention of our Pastor, he
immediately wrote to Don Nixon for advise. Don Nixon stopped
by the church last week and left the message to send the checks
to you.
If there is any question regarding this arrangement please do
not hesitate to contact me.

Dear Mr. Kalmbach:
On behalf of East Whittier Friends Church, we are
indeed grateful for the use of the "Nixon house"
at 15844 E. Whittier Blvd. Our Minister of Christian
Education, Charles Mylander, and family are using it.
Our understanding, arrived at in conversation with
Don Nixon, is that East Whittier Friends Church pays
$50.00 per month, is at liberty to fix up and maintain
the premises during occupancy, and will continue to use
the property on the basis of a six-month notice to
vacate. Taxes and the water bill will be paid by the
owner.
Enclosed 18 a check for $50.00 for the month of
October. If there is any question about the arrangement
or need for revision, we would appreciate the opportunity
of discussion.

MEMORANDUM FOR:
ROSE MARY WOODS
we
FROM:
DAV PARKER
I have spoken further to Jane Brumley Ikard about
her ideas concerning the President's anonymous
donation to the National Symphony Orchestra. We
were unable to work out the March 1st date for
girls gore
a check presentation in the Oval Office, there-
fore, I have suggested to Jane that she address
a letter to the President marked to your attention
whereupon you would take up the subject with the
President regarding the donation.
I have spoken with Len Garment concerning the idea
of the President making a donation and he informs
5 Len
me that the President has done this in the past and
would strongly recommend that he do in the future on
an anonymous basis or in a low key fashion.
T
Jane in turn would be in the position to announce
the President's donation before the Gifts Committee
of the National Symphony and it would be noted in
a low key fashion.
If you have any questions in this regard, please call.

My dear Mr. President,
I am delighted to be the person chosen by the National Symphony
Orchestra's special gifts committee to remind you that it's time once
again to consider the needs of the orchestra.
The reason that I'm delighted is that it affords me an opportunity
to thank you personally for the very great contribution that you've made
to all the arts as President. We are all aware that no other President
has ever done as much.
Inspired by your example we are working much harder this year
to raise funds for the symphony as we build toward the Bicentennial. We
agree with you that a great city should have a great orchestra.
Thank you for your kind attention and most especially for your
enlightened efforts to make Washington a top city culturally.
Warmest personal regards,
