56.1. Statement. Every candidate for any office
voted for at any primary, municipal, or general elec-
tion shall, within thirty days after the holding of
such election, file a true, detailed, and sworn state-
ment showing all sums of money or other things of
value disbursed, expended, or promised, directly or
indirectly, by him, and to the best of his knowl-
edge and belief by any other person or persons in
his behalf, for the purpose of aiding or securing his
nomination or election.

56.2. Requirement. Such statement shall show
the dates, amounts, and from whom such sums of
money or other things of value were received, and
the dates, amounts, purposes, and to whom paid or
disbursed, and shall include the assessment of any
person, committee, or organization in charge of the

In order that you may comply with Chapter 56, Code of Iowa 1971,
we are enclosing "Candidate's Statement of Election Expenses" in duplicate.
Please properly execute these forms and return both copies to the
Secretary of State. The original and duplicate will be "file-stamped". The
original will remain in this office and the duplicate will be returned to you
for your file.
It is our recommendation that every candidate whose name appears
on the general election ballot file such a report regardless of whether or not
that candidate has any receipts or expenditures. If a candidate makes no ex-
penditures and receives no contributions, he should merely mark "None" in
the space provided for that information.
In accordance with Chapter 56, Code of Iowa 1971, this statement
must be filed in this office within thirty days following the November 7, 1972
general election date.
