Dear Mr. President:
NM
Notice is hereby given that as Secretary of State of the State of
Rhode Island I intend to place your name on the Presidential Preference
Primary ballot labels as a bona fide national candidate for presidential
nominee of the Republican Party at the primary to be held on May 23, 1972.
If any candidate whose name has been announced as a presidential
nominee does not wish his name to appear on the ballot, he shall at least
twenty-one (21) days prior to the date for the primary, file an affidavit
with the secretary of state stating his name may not be placed on the
ballot and the secretary of state shall not place his name or the name of
any delegates supporting such candidate on the ballot.
The final date for withdrawal is May 2, 1972. However, it would
be appreciated by this office that if you do not intend to participate in
the primary you SO advise me at the earliest possible moment.
Enclosed is a copy of the Rhode Island Presidential Preference
