The attached invoice from Al Moscow covers the
period January through April, 1962 at the rate of $1500 per month.
I thought that his Consultant's Fee was being paid on
a regular monthly basis, but obviously it has not been. We therefore
owe him for the full amount from the first of the year.
Moscow is covered in the budget under Candidate, as

Special Assistant, at the monthly rate of $1500.

The $2,250 which is due from January 1 through
February 15 and is not included in the budget should still be paid, and
can be charged against Tour Manager and Aide categories, since no
one had been hired to fill either of these positions up to April 15th.

Since he has not received any remuneration from us at all,

we should put out to the press etc., as well as to our own
people, the Werdel - Warren figures which are indicative of the
far right strength within the Republican Party of California.
These should be checked but as I recall
Werdel drew about 40% of the Republican vote. This is the comparison

that should be the standard measure against which Shell spoke in the
primary; i.e. he certainly should do as well as Werdel, and anything
less would be an indication of weakening of far right strength.

The President of the Pacific Palisades Republican Club. Lewis A.
Helms, called me the other day to discuss the problems of the
motion picture industry.
Mr. Helms himself is a union member of LATSE Local 728, and of
course works all the time with labor people.
He says that the situation of the producing companies making pictures

overseas has created a very serious job problem in California within

the various unions involved in motion picture production. He sent me
the attached chart which shows the trend in studio electricians' employ-
ment in Southern California, and it is rather shocking.

He further points out that many members of the unions in foreign
H (Helms)
countries where these pictures are being produced are Communists --
a much higher proportion than in the United States. He admits that
Communists.

Helms suggests that we contact Denny Dennison, Business Agent for
Local 728, who has a great deal of information on this subject and would
be happy to cooperate in providing answers to our questions.

I don't know whether we can do anything with this, but it looks as if it

made is San Francisco April 7th.
We certainly recognise that criticism of law enforcement and
crime control in California has a deuble effect. I am sure you know

that Mr. Mixem's criticism is directed very definitely at the state
level, the Governer and the Attorney General, and not at the local
law enforcement level. He recognizes that an outstanding job is
being done in the state by city and county law enforcement officials,
but feels that they have not been given the proper support and

University of California Pamphlet - Agriculture
The attached pamphlet "Projections Relating to California Agriculture
in 1975" has been sent along by Ralph Bunje, our "Farmers for Nixon"
Chairman. You will nate it deals with several commedities and
also projected land and water resources and requirements in 1975.
It would appear to be good source material for agricultural audiences.

Bob Schakney, the new Network News Director for
CBS, assigned to Les Angeles, called to say that they are
planning a CBS "Eye Witness to History" program on the
California gubernatorial election, to run on a Friday night
sometime before the primary.
Principal interest in coverage on this half-hour program
will be devoted to RN since the national interest in this election
is focused on him -- not on Brown.

can give him advance guidance. Otherwise, it will probably be

CBS will pick up some sound on film coverage of campaign

appearances with the San Francisco YR's and at Bealt Hall.
I know how important both of these are and certainly hope

Dick Ports, who is working on the Schedule, to see if we
can't somehow fit these in.
1 also appreciated your comments on Kera County. We too
have been very concerned about the situation there and had
an extremely difficult time liming up the right man for Chairman.
As you probably know, we have been very fortunate in getting
two outstanding Co-Chairmen, S. B. Gill and Kenneth M. Wegis,
I will be sure that they have the information regarding Pat
Cruikshank and Tim Howell because we certainly need all the
