I was very much interested in your suggestions regarding inroads to be made in the Democratic areas of Alameda County, and agree that your approach would be much more effective than any attempt to hold large public meetings. I will see if we can't work out something along the lines you have suggested. I also agree that something must be done to resolve the Sacramento problem, but am sure you would concur in my feeling that this should follow the special session, date not preceed it. The report on the situation regarding Structural Pest Control is interesting, as well as your own observations and experience in the matter. Oakland 12, California RN 6-16-62 Bob Haldeman Jim Mitchell cc: Bob Finch xx Alice Leopold points out that Jim Mitchell File: is moving to San Francisco to go to work for Crown- Zellerbach, arriving there June 25th. She feels that he might create certain campaign problems in that the Negroes in the Bay Area, date at least, feel that Michell did the cause of Civil Rights a disservice because of demoting Ernest Wilkins in the Labor Department to make room for George Lodge. She also points out the obvious problem of Mitchell, Jim (folder) Candidate - Memos Mitchell vis-a-vis the farm leadership in this state because of his position on farm labor. She does feel he might be helpful with Hiller and his group and with some big business contacts. If he is used at all, it should be in this area.
