Mailliand Corroon August 4, 1960 4:30 p.m. Ed: Ray Jones called just before he left the City. You have his home telephone number and other statis- tics, I believe. He said he had met Captain Gray and Pat told him he just didn't know anything at the moment. Additional help is going to be needed, but Pat doesn't now know how much or when. Captain Gray was happy to meet Mr. Jones and wants him to drop him a note. Mr. Jones also dropped by the RNC. They didn't have anything that interests him. If anything is to be worked out, it will be between Captain Gray and somebody here--probably you. From the desk of BOB McCUNE To B. Holdemon 6/8/60 2 talked with this penson the date. BARRY Mr. Charles K. Mcwhorter Legislative Assistant to the Vice President Suite 361 Senate Office Building Washington, D.C. administration Dear Mr. McWhorter: See Pursuant to our telephone conversation today I am enclosing a 1-page resume of my background and activities. I think I can date my partisanship for the Vice President back to at least 1956. At that time, while a member Froms for Come of the North Dakota delegation to the National Convention ---and during some of the Stassen turmoil I was approached by a representative of Sent Terry Carpenter and asked to make a seconding speech for Fred Seaton (the real Joe Smith, in Carpenter's mind). But this is getting too long. Just wanted to state that the resume is enclosed, and anything I can do for the Vice President, now or in the future, will be done with a strong sense of personal devotion to his cause and CHBarg principles. Robison, Jr. Office of the Chief Justice Supreme Court State of Utah Salt Lake City, Utah Dear Roland: First permit me to apologize profusely for my delinquency in failing to respond to your letter. This arises out of the following circumstances. I am presently on the staff of the Vice President and have been for the past few months. At the time I received your letter, I was very much involved 1a the activities in New Hampshire, and since the withdrawal of the Governor of the State of New York, I have been traveling extensively in the Midwest. To the point of your letter, as you might realize, our pre-convention problem has been substantially reduced with the result that while we did have some rather extensive plans of staffing needs, we will, of course, not require a large staff, Presently, we are involved in evaluating and appraising our situation and the only thing that I can say is that I feel confident that we will have a need for persons such as yourself and that you can expect to hear from Mr. Bob Haldeman, who is handling staffing requirements. You should hear from him within a month or so. I have discussed your interest with him and needless to say, it was easy for me to recommend you to him highly in so far as character, integrity, and ability are concerned. I am sincerely hopeful that we will be able to work out something to your satisfaction. with kind regards, I am Sincerely, Edward Terrar Office of the Vice President ET/pm CC: Mr. Roland G.
