Mr. Lee Greenhouse
Doremus-Eshleman
1616 Walnut Street
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Dear Lee:
First, let me thank you for all your help in our joint
effort. It has been a real pleasure working with you.
This will be the format of the half-hour paid political
telecast from Convention Hall in Philadelphia Wednesday
evening, October 5, 1960:
1. We will open up video-wise on Convention
Hall and the crowd. Over this, audio will
be from the local stations with the indivi-
dual local political disclaimer. We will
allow ten seconds for this.
2. Over the same video the announcer in
Philadelphia will briefly set the scene
and with "and new to the rostrum and
the Hemorable Milton G. Baker, Chair-
man of the Nixon for President Committee."
We will allow thirty seconds for this.
3. Mr. Baker will then introduce the Vice
President with this introduction only:
"It gives me great pleasure to
introduce the next President of
the United States, Vice President
Richard M. Nixon."
We will allow ten seconds for this.
-2-
4. Vice President and Mrs. Nixon will then
enter, and from entrance to close of
remarks there will be a total of 27 minutes
and 15 seconds.
5. At the close of the Vice President's remarks
and voice over the ovation, the Philadelphia
announcer should reset the scene something
to the effect:
"You have just heard Vice President
Richard M. Nixon speaking from
Convention Hall in Philadelphia.
Video-wise from Philadelphia at this point
there should be the Nixon-Lodge flip or
telop, which we will supply and over which
the Philadelphia announcer reads, "Vote
for Nixon and Lodge. They understand what
peace demands."
Ve will allow fifteen seconds for this.
6. Video-wise and audio-wise the local stations
will then cut away for a period of one minute
for mentioning the statewide candidates and
the local political disclaimer.
As I understand it, the last one minute where we will
be cutting away to the individual stations will take care of the
request for inclusion and mention of the statewide candidates.
Unless otherwise notified, by you, the following stations
will carry this telecast:
WFIL-TV - Philadelphia
WBRE-TV - Wilkes-Barre
KDKA-TV - Pittsburgh
WJAC-TV - Johnstown
WFBG-TV Altoona
WICU-TV - Erie
WGAL-TV Lancaster
