Blackmon say of Pat martin Re: Pat Martin Per Fred Haffner - Fred doesn't really know too much about Martin -- said some of the people are behind him -- but that two of his biggest pushers are Shell people (Shell's Chairman and Co-Chairman). Martin is talking the conservative line -- doesn't appear to be too friendly -- also -- Fred said he is criticizing the Party - handling of '60 election - saying we bumbled it etc. etc. However, Fred doesn't know that he is Shell -- he is new in politics. - on the other hand, Fred said Leonard Campbell - who ran before - is a Nixon man -- and has the private support of most of the people Fred knows are strong Nixon people in both Riverside and Imperial Counties. The reading Fred gets on him - from the editor of the paper - is that Campbe11 is comfortably ahead -- probably will win. - Fred suggested you might want to get a further reading from Cap Reade.
