BOB HALDEMAN
Christopher, Mayor George
July 16, 1962
Dear George:
This delayed acknowledgment of
your June 28th letter is regretted. I did
take a "breather" and unfortunately, your
note was received while I was away from
the office.
The case of the state employees
which you bring up is important and certainly
calls for follow-up. I am, therefore,
establishing contact with Mr. Clen Baker
along the lines you have suggested. I agree
with you that a discussion with him is in
order, and the points you have made are
helpful.
Many thanks, and best regards.
Sincerely,
H. R. Haldeman

Don -
Will you please call Mr. Glen Baker, Chairman of
the State Personnel Board, and follow through on
George Christopher's suggestion? Copy of his letter and
my reply are attached for your information and guidance.

Dear George:
Just wanted you to know how much I
appreciated your sending the newspaper clips
from Chicago, also the Ed Heavey story from San
Francisco and the Malaxa report.
Also wanted to assure you that all such
X
material received here is given immediate attention
and will be routed to proper people for action
where appropriate.
date
Needless to say, we all especially
appreciated your efforts in the Heavey matter, and
I am sure this will be most helpful.
Best regards.
Sincerely,
H. R. Haldeman

BULLETIN NO. 1
June 18, 1962
Dear Fellow Campaigners:
First, let me express the State Committee's sincere
thanks for your splendid work during the Primary campaign. The
best tribute to your committee's great work is evidenced by the
fact that Mayor Christopher carried all but one of the 58 counties
for a thumping Statewide victory!
Now, for the big one in November.
Our big goal will be to elect George Christopher as our
next Lieutenant Governor and we urge an early start in your county-
wide planning. We hope these Bulletins will help to coordinate
the Statewide campaign and as always, we will appreciate your
advice and counsel.
Again, thanks, and with your help we are confident of
Victory in November.

CHRISTOPHER VICTORY DINNERS: A series of dinners sponsored
by "Democrats for Christopher" will be held in major cities
throughout California during September and October. Dr. Peter Angel
and Mr. George Maheras will call on you in the near future for your
advice in the selection of a Dinner Chairman and to make other
arrangements. We urge your full cooperation with these men in order
to make the "Victory Dinners" a success.
DEMOCRATS FOR CHRISTOPHER: If you have not already appointed
a chairman for your "Democrats for Christopher" committee, we urge
that you do so as soon as possible. Be sure to send us the name.
FOR LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR-A MAN OF GUBERNATORIAL STATURE!
2 - BULLETIN NO. 1 to COUNTY CHAIRMAN
FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS: Financial requirements for conduct
of the Statewide campaign will be much greater than in the Primary.
We urge your early attention to financial prospects and in
particular, to the organization of a good, hard-working finance
committee. We will forward detailed information later regarding
this important phase of the campaign but we emphasize that it will
be more important than ever for each county to carry its fair
share of our Statewide budget.
HEADQUARTERS: At a recent meeting, Dick Nixon and George
Christopher agreed that each would continue his own campaign.
We suggest, therefore, that you re-open (or establish) Christopher
headquarters in each county, sometime during the last two weeks
of August, and timed for full operation by Labor Day. As in the
Primary campaign, costs of headquarters will be the responsibility
of the local Christopher committee. In most counties, joint
headquarters for the entire Republican ticket will be opened by
the Republican County Central Committee and there should be full
cooperation, of course, with these GOP headquarters.
CAMPAIGN MATERIALS: These may be secured from State head-
quarters at 870 Market Street, San Francisco 2, or from Southern
California headquarters at 4160 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles 5.
APPEARANCES, SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS, RALLIES: As in the
Primary campaign, Mayor Christopher will be available for all
possible engagements, within the limits of his schedule. Please
address your requests to Mayor Christopher at State headquarters.
For Southern California events, send a carbon to the Los Angeles
headquarters.
VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES: Plan now to organize your volunteer
activities, including pledge card sign-ups, telephone teams,
coffee hours and other events.

Dear Bob:
Mrs. Ione Ressegieu, 616 East Carson, Torrance,
mailed two $1.00 bills to our office with the request
that we send one of them along to you--So here it is.
Even though we are only two blocks apart, it
seems as though it is impossible for you and I to get
together for a cup of coffee--maybe one of these days.
Best regards,
James Jim A. Kelley
