Thursday, July 26, 2007 Page 1 of 1 Demo I'm INTER-OFFICE MEMORANDUM Nixon for Governor R.V eF To: Bob Haldeman From: Al Moscow P&P Date: June 12, 1962 Subject: TV FILM ON BROWN P.R. Distribution: Farrington; Quinn; Barber At a dinner meeting with George Putnam and Paul Husserl last April they outlined a proposal for two half-hour TV FEEL films on Brown. The first would be "Soft on Crime, etc." and the second "Soft on Communism." The outlines are attached. Putnam said he will make all KTTV film available to us, but he himself could not narrate the program. The idea would be to get as much sound film as possible which would demonstrate Brown speaking against Brown, switching positions, etc. The catch is that Paul Husserl, who has had quite a bit of experience on TV, as per attached, said it would take about six weeks to get the two shows put together because of the tremendous research in film library required. At first he thought each show would take 6 weeks, but now he will settle for 6 weeks for both shows. He asks $250. a week salary. 51500fee I dangled in front of him the possibility, but only the possibility, that we might be looking for a full-time TV man. I informed him that no decision would be made until after the Primary. He telephoned the day after the Primary asking what our decision was - because he might take a job back east. The decision on this proposal it seems to me should be made in connection whether we would hire a full time TV man. Apparently one or two good half-hour programs can be made up along these outlines, but will it be worth the money involved. Its value will depend upon the narrator, and it is questionable whether we could get someone like Ron Reagan to do it, or whether RN would want to narrate the film himself.
