Dear Bob:
As I am sure you know by now from the State Central
Committee, the plans for a series of unity fund-raising
activities in the major cities throughout the state
shortly after the primary have been dropped. This was
necessarily the decision due to the inability to put
X X X
together a suitable organization and get the program
under way soon enough to make it successful. As I am
sure you recognize, it would have had to be handled
by the State Central Committee since we could not divert
the campaign organization at this crucial point in the
date
Primary effort.
I had told George Murphy of your interest in this
McK (McKeen)
RN memo file
activity and imagine he has been in touch with you.
The finance people have all agreed that a similar effort
in the fall campaign will be much more productive and that
is the course to which we are apparently committed at
this time.
Best regards.

INTER-OFFICE MEMORANDUM
Nixon for Governor
To:
Bob Haldeman
Date: May 16, 1962
From:
RN
Subject:
Oakland Chairman --Finance Affair
Distribution:
I told the Oakland Chairman that you would call him on the
finance thing after June. They expected a call last week so if you have
not talked with him, please do SO.
The reason I want you to call him is Bob Finch tells me he hasn't
been able to work it out - just be sure that the Oakland man has been kept
informed. Let them know if we are not going to be able to do it as they
are holding a hall up there and have set the date already.

Dear Ruth:
I have your letter of May 11th
about the Alameda County fund-raising plans.
The State Central Committee is
considering putting on a series of unity fund-raising dinners
or other fund-raising activities in the major cities throughout
the state. This is planned shortly after the primary.
As soon as this is definite, then it
would be fine if the Nixon Committee and the County Central
Committee could get together and plan a real show at the
Oakland Auditorium.
At the moment, however, it would
appear we will have to await developments on the State
Committee's plans.

Dear Bob:
When Dick Nixon met with the Alameda County Finance people
he mentioned the One Night Stand Shows scheduled for
approximately June 15 - 20. Alameda County is interested
in this and could secure the Oakland Auditorium for June 20
only. It is booked pretty solid.
They are most anxious to know if this is going to occur because
they would like to start organizing ticket sales. Dick told
them that he would expect 5,000 at the Auditorium, that the
money would be used for candidates' campaigns, starting with the
gubernatorial and they would want some of it pro-rated to their
assembly candidates The County Central Committee and the Nixon
Committee in Alameda County would work together on this and bring
in other candidates after June 5.
Could you let Bob McKeen and/or me know if this has any chance of
being produced.
Kind personal regards.
Very truly yours,
Rich

Dear Mr. Nicol:
Dick Nixon has asked that I answer your letter of

As you probably know, the State Central Committee
is considering putting on a series of unity fund-
raising dinners or other fund-raising activities
in the major cities throughout the state. This is
planned shortly after the primary.
If this plan is put into effect, it would, I assume,
preclude your plan for a Republican Associates
dinner in San Diego on June 8th. Needless to say,
we heartily endorse your idea of firing up the
San Diego Republicans and reunifying them after the
primary, but de feel that any final acceptance
should await developments on the State Committee's
