He was not immune, but apparently Nelson Hartson is. We now need a new needle with a different prescription. Do you have it, or what would you advise as the next step? June 1, 1962 Dear Cliff: bcc It was great to take time out from X delivering the groceries to sit around and map out a few great strategic moves with you and Len. RHF date We are indeed getting our sea legs, and as long as you keep the bullets coming, we will be sure the cannons are loaded and properly aimed. File: Folger, J. C. I am not exactly sure how a tower of jelly can end up in a pulp - propped up or not - but we will give it the old college try. Very best of everything. WIN WITH NIXON! H. R. Haldeman The Honorable John Clifford Folger 725 Fifteenth Street, N.W. Washington 5, D. C. 725 FIFTEENTH STREET WASHINGTON 5 May 24, 1962 Dear Bob: There is much master minding in politics. People love to sit around and map out great strategic moves. It is plain to see you are one who delivers the groceries and gets things done. It was terribly nice to see you, and we could follow the day to day developments with clear understanding. Much as one deplores a primary fight, I can't help feel the net result of the June 5 contest is going to be on the plus side. You are getting your sea legs and a better feeling of the problem before you. The main fact is Pat Brown is a tower of jelly, and no amount of propping up will save him. In the final stages Nixon will beat him to a pulp. With all good wishes, I am, Faithfully yours, John Cup Clifford Folger Mr. H. Robert Haldeman 6505 Wilshire Boulevard Los Angeles, California December 22, 1961 Mr. John Clifford Folger 725 Fifteenth Street, N.W. Washington 5, D. C. Dear Cliff: In cleaning up the loose ends which were hanging around when I started on this job, I find that there are two polls which were taken in September which have not been paid for as yet. It is my understanding that you are familiar with these polls and that they were taken prior to Dick's decision to run to determine the relative standing of the potential candidates. It is also my understanding that you had agreed to pay for these polls and that they should therefore not be submitted to the local Committee. Assuming this is correct, I am attaching the invoices which total $7,894.50. Payment should be made directly to C-E-I-R, Inc. If there is any problem on this, please let me know. Sincerely, H. R.
