His parents, Judge (retired) and Mrs. J. L. Shell have resided in San Diego since 1920. Joe was educated in the San Diego public schools, graduating from Herbert Hoover High in 1936. He holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California where he also captained the 1939 Rose Bowl Championship football team. Joe is married to the former Barbara Morton. They have 5 children: Barbara, Joe Jr., David, Harold and Diane. He served in the United States Naval Air Corps as a pilot during World War II and is of the Episcopalian faith. Prior to his election to the State Legisla- ture in 1953, Joe spent 21 years in the oil business. Re-elected to the Assembly in '54, '56, '58 and '60, he has been Republican Floor Leader for the past three years. Joe Shell is currently serving on the following Legislative committees: Government Organization; Industrial Relations; Manufacturing; Oil and Mining Industry; Revenue and Taxation. Joe Shell for Governor JOE SHELL FOR GOVERNOR LEGISLATOR BUSINESSMAN VETERAN COUNTY OF MONO GEORGE C. DELURY, JR. COUNTY CLERK RECORDER BRIDGEPORT, CALIFORNIA May 28, 1962 Dear Bob: I enclose copies of "Shell" propoganda which hit my offece today and which as far as I can ascertain was from a mailing list which Elliott got hould of someplace. This reapportionment idea is PURE POISON in the small counties of the State, including Mono. If Shell carries Mono County this did it. I am sorry and there is not much chance to overcome it if the people here think that Dick is for this plan of the County of Los Angeles. The Shell timing was perfect in this nice "friendly letter" We may be lucky in that the people do not fall for it. Up to this moment everything was O. K. Kindest regards, Game May 23, 1962 Dear Friends: We have been fishing the lakes and streams from Lone Pine to Bridgeport and above, enjoying the hospitality, making many friends, for many years. Each trip we make to your beautiful country, we say, "This is where we would love to live", and are quite envious of the natural beauty. We hope that we can help keep this country free of exploitation and a place where friends can come in peace. The people who pioneered your wonderful country were, and are, rugged individuals who did not beg for Federal aid, but were willing to be responsible for their land and themselves. We conservatives here in the city are hoping to maintain the Senate of California with the present apportionment, since we depend on your rural representatives to vote down Socialist measures. It is quite important for you to know that in his platform, Mr. Nixon calls for reapportionment of the Senate, This would give Los Angeles possibly eight senators, instead of the present one, The man we are working to place in Sacramento as Governor is Mr. Joe Shell, who is absolutely against the reapportionment. This is only one qualification for Joe Shell, but we are taking the opportun- ity to enclose a brochure giving more information, along with a bumper sticker. We are also actively supporting Mr. Loyd Wright for U. S. Senator from California, and Mr. Max Rafferty for Superintendent of Public Instruction for the State of California. We are sure that if you will look up the past records of these two candidates, you will agree here are two men who are earnest in their desire to stop the trend toward Socialism. We hope these three men will also be your choice, because we feel they will help preserve the freedom you hold dear. Most sincerely, George & Elenore George and Elenore Elliott 6446 Orion Avenue Van Nuys, California P.S. Both of us "limited" out at Crowley, Sunday, May 6, with Ed Krause, guide. H. wifo. Werb shell Joe Shell Dinner July 23, 1962 file Knott's Berry Farm This testimonial dinner for Shell, sponsored by Kurt Kielmeyer of Garden Grove, drew some 125 persons. Some 150 were expected. The announced purpose was to pay tribute to Shell and hear his comments on political affairs. Shell spent the evening campaigning for himself. His posture was essentially that of primary election eve: Nixon will have to sell himself to the conservatives and it's going to be a hard job. He's not likely to get any help from Shell. Shell repeated his claim to leadership of the GOP conservative wing. He called himself the "product" of the conservative money and effort that were invested in the primary and he said he did not intend to let that investment be dissipated. Shell said he would remain active in politics and seek public office in the future. He said he expected to speak out "frequently" during the campaign. He said he hoped no one had come to hear him declare for the U.S. Senate because he was going to disappoint them--for the time being, anyway. He said the outcome of the November election would obviously influence his next move. In response to a question, he acknowledged that he could well become the leader of the California Republican Party if Nixon is defeated in November. Shell said he would fulfill a primary campaign pledge to support the entire GOP ticket in the Fall. He said he was particularly con- cerned with some of the Congressional and Legislative races and might well concentrate his efforts there. He repeatedly urged his audience to vote as their principles and their consciences dictated. Shell - Page 2 He said he would not presume to tell them how to vote or to deliver their votes. He repeated the need for aid to Congressional and Legislative candidates, suggesting the GOP votes might well "flow upward to the top of the ticket." In answer to an early question, he said he would have to consider write-in votes for him a mistake. On a number of subsequent occasions, he did not discourage the idea of a write-in. Shell told a questioner he saw two ways that Nixon "might" win the conservative vote: 1. Cut the budget. 2. Guarantee the conservative wing a 1964 convention representation proportional to the primary vote for Shell. -0- For the most part, last night's audience was patently anti- Nixon. Some indicated strongly they would vote for neither Nixon nor Brown in November. There appeared to be two basic objections to Nixon: 1. Disagreement with his stand on basic issues, particularly the Francis anti-communist measure and the Connolly Amendment. 2. The conviction that Nixon lacks fixed principles and tailors his stand to get the most votes. -0- (more) Shell - Page 3 In summary, Shell's apparent objective last night was to preserve the identity and makeup of the GOP Conservative wing and to confirm his role as its leader for use when an appropriate occasion presents itself. The question of Party unity wasn't raised. ### AN OPEN LETTER TO DICK NIYON: Shell file J' ACCUSE! The news quotes you recently as having "demanded" that Republicans who are members of the John Birch Society resign from that patriotic, conservative group. Further- more, we are told that you do not welcome the support of such other conservatives as the "far right-wingers", of the Party; and that you will not appear on the same plat- form with John Rousselot or Edgar Hiestand, overlooking the fact that the Republican Party has always been made up of such good, old fashioned Americans as these two. Well, Dick, if you don't welcome conservative votes, it's all right with us. B ut we have a pretty black crow to pick with you! In fact, we have several. B efore you excommunicate men whose only crime is that of being patriotic Americans, why don't you resign that membership of yours in the NAACP? According to Jack Moffit's CRACKER B ARREL Column in the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner, your "Staff Assistant", Mr. Charles M. Lichenstein, stated on your letterhead in an- swer to a reader's inquiry, and we quote: "Mr Nixon is a "non-resident "member of the Council On Foreign Relations". (The CFR). This outfit seems to have a philosophy that is today being followed right down the line by the Kennedy Administration, and the line, retreat before the Communist Aggression over the world; the no win, appeasement policy; the build-up of an all-powerful, socialistic central government; a non-gold or silver-redeemable dollar; the giving away of our sovereignty bit by bit; and the staged surrender of our mili- tary arament to the pro-Communist United Nations. Add to that indictment, anti-colon- ialism, and you bring the picture pretty well into focus. Did we say black crows to pick? Well, here is another: This is the story of the $65,000 in cash that was in the belongings of Mr. W. Alton Jones, when he lost his life in the planebrash near New York early this year. This story hinted that the $65,000 in cash in the little black bag, was earmarked for you campaign for the governorship of California. Now, Dick, you must admit this does look a bit peculiar, inasmuch as Mr. Jones was a member of the Council On Foreign Relations, as are you and General Eisenhower, and that he was on his way to Palm Desert, where you also were a guest at the Eisenhower's Mr. Jones certainly didn't need that kind of money with which to purchase desert dates and souvenires! You know it, and so do we, Dick, that that kind of money when used for political campaigns always has strings attached. In this case, it could be that those strings were the well-known no, surrender to the U.N., CFR Line, on which we will elaborate a blt farther on. Seemingly, you add to the CFR Line by accepting Joseph Rauh's ADA Line, swallowing that bit of Left-wing Extremist venom, when you refuse to appear with John Rouselot or Edgar Hiestand. In view of the items above, we should have a "demand" in addition, for you. For the good of the Party, in addition to separating yourself from the NAACP, why don't you separate yourself from the Octopus which Dan Smoot calls "The Secret And Invisible Government Of The United States"? Dan Smoot sets up the exposure of this Fabian-Socialist, One-World, Welfare-staters group (composed of some 1200 "Men of Distinction",) in eight separate broadcasts and printed reports. These are easily obtainable at a cost of $1.50 per set. His address is P.O, Box 9538, Takewood Station, Dallas 14, Texas. While you are at it, ask for his pamphlets outlining the CFR Plan for the Surrender of this nation to World Socialism, via the UN. Mr. Fred Johnson, of 183 Montague Street Brooklyn, New Work, and a man who probably knows more about the great tax-exempt formiations than any man in America, and a. well-known author and analyst, calls this CFR group-- which at one time had in it such characters as Alger Hiss and Harry Dexter White- we quote: "The Rockefeller Red Front". -2- He says in effect: They are a set of Welfare-staters-Socialists, who set themselves up as foreign affairs "experts", who follow the anti-colonialism, no win, soft-on- Communism, foreign policy. They are the same crowd who debauched our money system a la Karl Marx, and are completely responsible for the resulting inflation which has been for thirty years eroding away the purchasing value of our printing press money at the rate of 22% per year. Domestically, they do not believe in a gold-backed dollar, but in deficit spending, and a managed currency. They are for massive foreign aid-even to help prop up certain Communist and Commun- ist-leaning, or "neutral" countries. They do not believe in the Monroe Doctrine, and virtually everyone involved in the Cuban Fiasco, the Korean Stalemate, the loss of Free China on the Asian Mainland, the Rape of Katanga, and others, are, or were, members of the Council On Foreign Relations (the CFR). They are back of NATO, The Treaty of Rome, the Common Market of Europe, GATT, the U.N., UNESCO, Atlantic Union, the Disarmament Agency, which they purposely set up to stage the surrender of our Military potential to the U.N. If we give the CFR enough rope, Mr. Johnson says, they will completely bankrupt America, it will be the easier for them to force upon us the Socialism here they intend. The only trouble is, of course, Krushchev waits on the same idea. His Time Table of 1973 for the TAKE OVER coincides directly with the CFR Time Table for DISARMAMENT. In a recent book, Mr. Johnson also claims that the CFR have their members in control on the boards of most of the great tax-exempt foundations, and are using the billions of dollars they control in these foundations to subvert our Constitution, our Educa- tional, Political, and Economic Institutions. That they have for over a generation trained Socialists for places in government, the Courts, in the Schools, and in Business. He says the country loses billions in taxes these foundations should be paying, but are free of, even while subverting the Constitution of the United States. (Note that Ford and Asia Foundations, after 11 years in Burma politicking among other things, have just been asked to leave the country.) fr. Johnson calls particular attention to the fact that Dean Rusk, our present : Secretary of State, is a former President of the Rockefeller Foundation. And that Robert McNamara our Secretary of Defense, is a former President of the Ford Motor Co. Many Conservatives besides Fred Johnson and Dr. Snoot who have studied this Council on Foreign Rolations, believe that many of their tenets border on treason! They say that the CFR operates under the principle that the citizen in this modern, complex government just simply doesn't know enough about the mechanics of modern government in vote properly, SO they give him his choice-- between CFR-controlled candidates in every election. The indictment against the CFR--and you, Dick is long. As you are aware, CFR's John McCloy heads the newly-formed Disarmament Agency, whose ultimate aim, as we have said, is to surrender our armed might to the UN. Under this plan, among a great many other things, there are to be no more super bombers built that are capable of carrying nuclear war heads to distant countries. And our military strength is to be gradually weakened as the U.N. takes over. Even our rifles are to be taken, which is of course, the first thing the Communists would want, and happens in every country being lined up for the Communists. Perhaps the first part of the above paragraph may explain why CFR's McNamara opposes the B-70 Program? And muzzles the military? Why the Polaris Missle on submarines has never been "hot" fired? It may explain also, why CFR's Eisenhower made the agreement with the Russians which kept us for years from testing nuclear weapons, while the Russians laughed up their collective sleeves at us as they secretly tested and advanced their nuclear strength? And appropos the muzzling; the military has always had at its head, civilians in Washington. B ut nover in our history have we had civilians who think and plan in terms of surrendering our sovereignty. Why shouldn't the military buck over the traces when they have such men placed over them: Sovereignty means nothing to men who think they can make valid agreements with the Communists. Or who do not believe in Self-determination any longer bv the American citizen. although they use the -3-- Y ou know, and so do we, Dick, that all that holds the Soviet Empire together; all that holds the millions of unhappy slaves in submission in Poland, Hungary, East Germany, the Baltic States, (where they now have the kind of Peace and Security the U. N. and the CFR are working up for us!) is the Russian Military Might. Do you think for a minute, Dick, that Krushchev is going to disarm? To be a party to any kind of Agreement whereby his nation turns loose the millions of prisoners he holds in Siberia? Disarm in the face of Red China? And all the time the Geneva Hocus Pucus, led by CFR's Arthur Dean (who also ran at Panmunjon), goes on merrily year after year! (Hoping that in the name of Peace and Security) millions of American Suckers will take the bait! So you can see Dick, where it can come as a distinct shock, to find you lined up with such a fine-feathered tribe! And hear you knocking fine Americans who get together in living rooms across the country, pledging Allediance to the Flag, forming study groups to find ways and means to keep our Constitutional Republic from sliding down into the cesspool of world Socialism! From its own official roster we find that the CFR now has its members in virtually every position of power, planning, and policy-making in the present Kennedy Admin- istration, with the exception of some 35 members of the ADA who think more or less the same. The CFR was strongly entrenched in the Eisenhower Administration as you well know; and in Truman's, and of course, in Roosevelt's (who fired the first shot in the infamous Gold Steal of 1934). Those in the know call this thing a conspiracy. They use several names loosely; THE OCTOPUS, THE ESTABLISHMENT, THE APPARATUS. The main body of the CFR is made up, as we said, of "Men of Distinction"; men of unblemished reputations-Untouchables. The Dirty Work at the Crossroads is per- formed by a dozen or more TENTACLES, which we may call INTERLOCKS, or SATELLITES, such as the old INSTITUTE OF PACIFIC RELATIONS (IPR), the bloody outfit that sold Chiang Kaishek down the Yangtze, and was also instrumental in setting up the Death Trap in Korea which took 147,000 of our boys. Another TENTACLE IS THE FOREIGN POLICY ASSOCIATION (FPA), which has been declared subversive by a half dozen Grand Juries. A squirming bunch of CFR Tentacles virtually controls Education by the use of the foundations' billions. We find CFR men such as Sarnoff and Paley heading NBC and CBS Broadcasting companies respectively. Eric Johnson, heads Motion Picture Pro- ducers Association; Henry Luce, of Time, Life, Fortune-now said to have acquired a substantial interest in the Saturday Evening Post; Erwin Canham, Joseph Harsch, of Christian Science Monitor; Philip Graham, of Newsweek and the Washington Post (which is now lined up with the Los Angeles Times!); John and Cardner Cowles, of Look, and 8 major newspapers in the U. S. ( Gardner Cowles just back from a visit with Krushchev) LC Murrow, who heads the U. S. Office of Information; Walter Lippman, James Reston, Marquis Childs, and many other columnists; the Sulzbergers, of the N. Y. Times (with Nelson Rockerfeller). There are hundreds more in Communications. Even the Gallup and Roper Rolls are headed by members of the CFR. Herbert Philbrick calls the resulting news Blackout-or "Paper Curtain" over America- "Cybernetic Warfare". As you are perfectly aware, Dick, this CFR APPARATUS to which you belong numbers its members right down through the U. S. Cabinet, and sub-cabinets, starting with President Kennedy himself. In the Cabinet we have Dean Rusk, Robert McNamara, Goldberg, Hodges, and Dillon, the perrennial Money Man. In the Pentagon we find General L. L. Lemnitzer, Joint Staff Chief; and Vice-Admiral George Anderson, Chief of Naval Operations. Carrying the CFR ball in Europe we find Generals Maxwell Taylor, Lucius Clay, Gruenther and others. The Federal Reserve System is headed by CFR member Wm. McChesney Martin; the Secur in ities & Exchange Commission, by CFR member Wm. Cary; the International Bank, by CFR's Eugene Black. CFR's Roger Blough heads U. S. Steel, and also the Business Advisory Council, said to be a SATELLITE OF THE CFR. (Real spectacle: last week CFR President Kennedy, over the steel price rise. Did Mr. Blough ever sell the American People that the reason the steel price was raised was to offset the 2½% erosion of U. S. Currency per year? While granting three raises to labor during the same period? Perhans we should leugh!) -4- In the U.N. we find CFR member Adlai Stevenson holding forth in a $30,000 per year suite in the Waldorf Towers, and backing him up talking to little old ladies in clubs around the nation, CFR's Clark Eichelberger, trying to prop up lagging interest in the dying U.N. A check of the records shows us that CFR's Ed Murrow taught in Moscow's Political School in 1935; CFR's John McCone heads our Central Intelligence Agency; while CFR's John McCloy, (A Director) heads the Disarmament Agency, and happily deals with (and ewims with) Nikita Krushchev in the latter's Russian Summer Retreat (See Mrs. Drew Pearson's Article in the March 31, 1962 Saturday Evening Post, where she lets the cat out of the bag on the Disarmament Thing, "There 'll be no war!" Krushchev told her, after happily cavorting with John McCloy in the pool.) In the Senate we find such open CFR members as Hubert Humphrey, William Fulbright, Stuart Symington, Clifford Case, and a great many others too chary to be openly list- ed. There are White H ouse Assistants in it galore--men like Arthur Schlesinger, who plays like Chester Bowles on both the CFR and ADA teams; Walt Rostow, Paul Nitze, and others Assistant Secretaries by the dozen; George Ball Foy Kohler (who accompanied you on your Russian Trip, and also escorted Krushchev around America); Philips Talbot, Fowler Hamilton; Roving Ambassadors such as Averell Harriman, now in Laos trying to set up another "Coalition" government- the kind which CFR men set up in Chine, to help Communize Asia. Then of course, we find Dean Acheson of the CFR busy as always. Practically all U. S. Ambassadors to foreign countries belong to the CFR; Zellerbach, G avin, Reischauer, Galbraith, Everton, Akers, and many more, including Ed. M.Gullion to the Congo. There are hundreds more in government; Negotiators like Arthur Dean; Consultants by the score, ad libitum; ad nauseum. Did you join this outfit-this so-called APPARATUS, Dick, because you thought it an unbeatable combination? Or was it to enhance your political ambitions and status? We'd like to know also, Dick, just when did you make that change from being a Conservative Republican who believed in Constitutional government, private enterprise and in a sound, gold backed dollar, and solicit such backing? Was it when you made that trip east ahead of the 1960 Convention? And on that trip, just with whom did you make your political peace? Was it with Trustee of the Rockerfeller Foundation, Mr. Charles Percy, the CFR member who just happened to write the Republican Platform that year? amber, Dick, it was imme diately following that trip, that suddenly, after being warm to your presidential aspirations, CFR's Dwight Eisenhower came out stumping the country in your behalf? The truth of the matter is, and you know it as well as we, that the CFR, in order to save the great foundations' skins-the billions they should be paying in taxes- they simply have to protect themselves by putting up both candidates in each presidential alection. Otherwise, these funds which engage in both business activities and in political propaganda distribution would disqualify themselves from the tax-free status. Perhaps that explains also, why they must pack the Supreme Court. As you know, they have just rushed CFR Committee member Byron White to that body to replace Conservative Whittaker. Let's turn a moment to California: There are many members of the CFR APPARATUS in Sat Brown's California Government: men like Stanley Mosk, our ubiquitous Attorney- General; men like Thomas Braden, who suddenly comes to California, it is said, for the Rockerfeller Newspaper Interests; takes over a little-known seaside newspaper, and at once becomes head of the California School Board System. We can name many more members of THE ESTABLISHMENT in the California State Government. Perhaps you think your CFR Administration would be a little bit more conservative than Pat Brown's? A little more subtle on the Socialistic approach? Idn't we recently hear you back up President Kennedy in his asking Gongress for that U. N. "Loan"? Well, Let's get back to cases, Dick: Have you forgotten how 43 members of the CFR, with Alger Hiss at their head, acted as mid-wives at the birth of the U.N. in San Francisco in 1945? T hen stacked it perpetually in favor of the Communists? Oh, we admit it sounded good then! But let's take another gander at the Hook- the Devil's Quote: "Our only hope for Peace and Security in a troubled world". Shades of the defunct League of Nations! For 17 years, Dick, the U.N. has worked for Peace and Security in our troubled world. They have achieved it for Roumnia, Poland, Hungary, Esthonia, Iatvia, Lithuania, Czechoslovakia, Algiers, Katanga, Red China, Goa, British Guiana, Cub a, the Congo, and a host of others. Have you forgotten also, Dick, how CFR's Harrimans, Achesons, Lattimores, John Vincents, Dean Rusks, all were mixed up in the China and Korean debacles? How American boys were forced to fight Communists under a CFR-backed, pro-communist U.N.? A no-win U.N. at that? A U.N. whose first Secretary-general, as we told you before, was none other than Alger Hiss, and whose Military Staff Head, the Under- secretary for Political and Security Council Affairs, is the Commander-in-chief of all troops put up by member nations? And under a secret agreement between Alger Hiss, CFR's Stettinius, Molotov, and Vichinsky, seven Communists in a row-for 17 years-have held this job, and will, in perpetuity? Do we want our sons and daughters to go to war fighting Communists under such an unholy outfit? You don't believe the U.N. to be pro-Communist? Well, digest this: The U.N. is now ruled by a "Troika" that is perfectly acceptable to the Russians. (Remember, they don't put up any troops). The Troika now consists of U Thant, a dedicated Marxist, who now informs the world he is shortly going to Russia. U Thant follows the Soviet Line without deviation, and is present at all the important Communist Seminars in Moscow (Along with Sukarno, Nehru, Menon and others). U Thant's very first act upon taking over the U. N. was to send Indian Ghurka soldiers in to butcher our only pro-West, Christian friends and allies in the Congo, The Katangans under Moise Tshombe. The Second angle of the Troika, is none other than your fellow CFR member the NAACP member, Ralph Bunche, who was a high-ranking member of the infamous CFR Satellite, the Institute of Pacific Relations (IPR), the CFR is now trying desperately to white- wash. Dr. Bunche was also a long time Editor of the Communist Magazine Science and Society. Toled angle: It consists of the Communist Eugeny Kiselev, who has just replaced gori Arkadev, as Undersecretary for Political and Security Council Affairs, and who is for all purposes the real head of the United Nations, inasmuch as he heads not only the Military, but Communications of the U. N., and is Custodian of all Diplomatic Documents. Under the Secret A recment, he is of course, Commander-in- chief of the U.N. Army. The real reason the United Nations is being kept alive and bolstered, is because it is necessary for the long-range Plan for Surrender. In the light of the above indictment of the U. N. , Dick how can you stand before an audience, and say that you still back these U. N. Butchers in any manner, shape or form? How can you place your hand on the Holy Bible, and swear to defend and pro- tect the Constitution, and take a part in what a good many Americans now consider treason? Also a great many good Americans now think that to help tear down the Sovereignty of this nation by surrendering to the U. N. is to give aid and confort to an enemy. It. takes only a thimble-full of brains to comprehend that this infinitesimily small OFR group composed of only some 2/1000ths of 1% of the country's population, is not in conformity with the Constitution they seek to replace, and in some measure- have already replaced. Dick, this thing just didn't happen! It is the fruition of a dedicated, conscious conspiracy against the rank and file of the American People! We ask: "Is this the American Way?" You know it, and we know it, This combination of CFR power in our government would have to be at least a billion to one to have happened accidentally! -6- Under it, the American People are stripped of every whit of self-determination. Luckily, like all dangerous conspiracies, it carries within it the seeds for its own destruction, and the way of course, is to alert the American People to its in- herent danger, by turning up the Candles of Freedom! Let there be Light! And Dick, whether or not you are aware of it, those Candles of Freedom are beginning to flame into bonfires all across the nation like racing prarie fires! We know that you probably have a list of members and the by-laws of this CFR ESTABLISHMENT and its "Committees for the various cities and regions", but for two thin dimes, Dick, you can get an extra list, now being distributed to the common people. Just send these dimes to either: The U.S. Flag Conmittee, Box 269, Jackson Heights 72, Long Island, New York; or to the Council On AMERICAN RELATIONS, 712 Summit Avenue, West Palm Beach, Florida. While you are at it, ask the latter for the STATE OF THE UNION MESSAGE, by George Deatherige and T. G. Kent, showing 1001 infractions of the U. S. Constitution by CFR members and their followers now in, or who have been in government during the past 30 years. Well, Dick, this has become a pretty long OPEN LETTER, but we'd like to say that, instead of knocking patrios who join such groups as the John Birch Society, that you should repudiate this CFR ESTABLISHMENT. We could go on for hours outlining the elements of this conspiracy on the part of the CFR and the ADA, but we'll give just a few more instances, then close: First, we call your attention to an editorial in the Masonic Magazine NEW AGE, for June, 1961, which shows how certain members of THE ESTABLISHMENT in the State Department have been for years steadily "Socializing" groups of citizens called in for briefings". The one cited by the Magazine, was called by CFR's Edmund Gullion, then Deputy Disarmanent Administrator (now of all things, Ambassador to the Congo!). Mr. Gullion, in the course of his indoctrination of the gathering along the classic CFR Line, made this statement: "It's hard to work under that old 18th Century Constitu- tion!". The Republican, whatever you may have come to think of him, Dick, is a natural, congenital, hard-core Conservative. Unaware that Dwight D. Eisenhower was a. long- standing member of the CFR, and believing he would put a stop to INflation and the Communist menace and advance over the world, Conservative Republicans-and Democrats, overlooking the fact that he couldn't make up his mind whether or not he was a Rep- Iblican or Democrat, elected him to the presidency in 1952. he carry out his election promises? Or the Party Platform? No: One of his first acts was to appoint a disciple of Swedish Socialism, with little legal experience, to head the Supreme Court. This in payment of a political debt. And this man, together with CFR members on that court began at once handing down new laws instead of interpreting those laws only, as they had been charged by the Constitution. Did President Eisenhower return the right to the American People to own and trade in gold, and to have a redecmble, gold-backed currency, the deprival of which had start- ed this nation down the one way inflationary Road to Socialism? Did he balance the Budget? Did he reduce the taxes? Did he throw the Communists out of government? No! He helped crucify Joseph McCarthy, because poor Joe stepped on a few CFR toes in his try to root out the Commies who were firmly established in government-and in the opinion of many, are still there. Mr. Eisenhower was against the Bricker Amendment to limit the treaty-making powers of the Executive, because treaties were the CFR way around the Constitution, and were also the life-blood of the U.N. Mr. Eisenhower was against the Connally Amendment to keep us out of the World Court which had only one American Judge out of 15, and that Judge, CFR's Philip Jessup, had been cited by the Senate for his pro-Communist leanings. It has been said that upon request of certain CFR members in government, President Eisenhower asked for, and got the Status of Forces T reaty enacted into law. -7- President Eisenhower paved the way for the strangle-hold the CFR has today upon the American People and their government. Yes, Dick, 1952 was a fateful year for the American People, because, that was when the "Moderates", the Middle-of-the-roaders", the "Me-tooers", took over the Grand Old Conservative Republican Party. Moderates! Me-tooers! Middle-of-the roaders! Remember CFR's Tom Dewey? And CFR's Wendell Wilkie? As the lady in Encinitas wrote in to the San Diego Union recently, "The Middle-of the Road is where the head-on collisions take place!" You are in the middle of the road, Dick, where most of those head-on collisions take place! If you stay there, if you keep the stand you have taken against the Conserva- tives who are the backbone of America, we have no choice but to shoot down your pol- itical star. And shoot it down we will! There are, as of today, members or correspondents in California of over 1800 Right- wing, Conservative organizations. And you will find in those organizations Right- wingers of both political parties, friends many of them, for the first time in a great many years. If you alienate these good Americans, and it appears you are doing just that in as headlong a manner as possible, your political goose will shortly be toasted to a dainty, pale cerise! In short, Dick, you are going to get your pretty little political applecart dumped into the mustard patch! Y ou probably don't believe there are 1800 of these Conservative groups operating now in California? If you wish to find out for yourself, just send $2.00 to ALERT AMERICANS ASSN., P.O. Box 1222, Los Angeles 53, and ask them for their FIRST NATIONAL DIRECTORY of Rightest Groups in the U.S. We are aware of how you fought to put CFR's Alger Hiss in the Penitentiary; but that was many years ago, before you picked up the virus of liberalism; before you joined the same outfit that once listed Hiss as a member. Perhaps you should now let the Conservatives take back their own? Florence Fowler Lyons, of P. O. Box 215, Montrose, California, told us almost 10 years ago, that you were "too far left of center". Miss Lyons, we think is America's outstanding authority on UNESCO. It looks now as though she had you pretty well tabbed that far back. We hate to say it, Dick, after working so hard for Mr. Eisenhower and you in past elections before we "wised up", but we do not believe that you can subscribe to the catreme left-wing, Fabian Socialistic, no win, appeasement, constant b ack-off from t: o Communist Aggression policies of the CFR and still be good for our Party. To Connervative Republicans there is no such thing as a middle-of-the roader, who must of necessity compromise with principle, and we Conservatives will work tooth and nail, fang and claw, to keep the CFR from getting a further foothold in California. so, just where do you stand, Sir? Yours for Constitutional Government. Permission is granted to quote all or any part, or to reprint this open letter in its entirety. Keep Our Constitution Committee Box 411, Sierra Madre, California. NIXON GOES UP -- THE CHALLENGES WE FACE (page 83), a book by Richard M.
