MEMORANDUM FOR NICK RUWE
FROM:
Dwight L. Chapin
RE:
Fall Campaign Scheduling
The following are some random notes regarding fall campaign
scheduling. These are a collection of thoughts from Bob, some
of which reflect the President's thinking.
1.
TRICIA AND JULIE
The girls have agreed to do some campaigning for candidates
this fall. They should of course plan their activities on the
basis that takes maximum advantage of television. Their
schedules must be very controlled from the White House
and they should go only where we want them to go. They
concentrate on the Senate races in small States -- or key
States -- they should do no colleges or universities, they
should, of course, appear with the candidate, they should
stay off the issues and provide essentially the enthusiasm
and excitement of their presence. We should probably look
for non-political meetings for them, but the main thing is
to emphasize their use on television.
2.
THE VICE PRESIDENT
He should plan more activities in States such as Pennsylvania,
New York, Massachusetts and probably Texas. He could do
some stump speaking at rallies, as well as the fund-raisers.
He should do an early in-the-campaign motorcade in a
reasonably small town where he can get a major turnout
and a very big and enthusiastic reception to set the tone.
I have talked to Ernie about the above and it fits in with
what he has planned except the question regarding Texas.
Ernie is preparing a plan which he will have in for Bob's
review sometime this week.

MEMORANDUM FOR MR. NICK RUWE
FROM:
Dwight L. Chapin
I understand that the President has committed Julie and
David to campaign for Congressman Albert Watson in
South Carolina. in September or early October. Perhaps
the State Fair in Columbia would be a possibility.

MEMORANDUM FOR: LUCY WINCHESTER

RE: Annenberg Dinner
I relayed to Stephanie Wilson the details concerning the
Annenberg Dinner and asked her to pass them on to you
as soon as possible.
This is just to recap. Attached you will find the approval
sheet which I sent in to Bob Haldeman for that dinner. You
will note that the President has disapproved adding Ambassador
and Mrs. Freeman to the list. He also moved Secretary and
Mrs. Rogers to the optional list to be used only If the other
people cannot attend. He would like the guests to be as follows:
President and Mrs. Nixon
Ambassador and Mrs. Annenberg
Henry Kissinger and Mrs. Longworth
Lords and Lady Thompson
Jack Knight and his wife
Mr. and Mrs. Don McGannon
Mr. and Mrs. William Michaels
The options would be as follows:
First, Hobart Lewis and his wife
Second, Secretary and Mrs. Rogers.
