MEMORANDUM FOR MR. DICK HOWARD
FROM:
DWIGHT L. CHAPIN
Will you see if Jay Wilkinson would like to have Tricia Nixon
come in to help his campaign? The President has come up with
this idea and it is one that we can probably sell to Tricia. This
would be in Oklahoma, obviously.

MEMORANDUM FOR MR. DICK HOWARD
FROM:
Dwight L. Chapin
We need to have a plan for use of the First Family for the fall
campaign period. The President feels the First Family should
be used in Florida, Indiana, North Dakota, Utah, New Jersey,
Texas, Maryland, and the Carolinas.
The President thinks that Tricia can be particularly effective in
North Dakota, Utah, and New Jersey.
David can be used hard for the next two weeks since he is virtually
available full-time. We should create and work out unique ways
to bring him into the various States--as well as with the other
members of the First Family. As you know, the idea is to get them
in and on television with the various candidates. We should forget
about the political rule and try to come up with some unique ways
of tieing them into the political picture, if appropriate.
I would like to get a list immediately of all the States who have said
they do not want members of the First Family. I am going to check
with the candidates to see if this is indeed a fact.
