Carbon copies to Haldeman and Colson. 1 pg. Friday, March 05, 2010 Page 1 of 1 May 12, 1972 EYES ONLY MEMORANDUM FOR: MR. H. R. HALDEMAN FROM: DWIGHT L. CHAPIN SUBJECT: JAYCEE'S Ten Outstanding Young Men This is the year for me to go after being one of the JAYCEE's Ten Outstanding Young Men of 1972. Jim Jones has been corresponding with me and wants to make the nomination. As you are aware, Jim is a past winner of the honor. I am not naive enough to feel my chances on this are the same as Ziegler's. However, if I am ever going to try, then 1972 - with China, Russia, and the election - this is the year. Okay? May 10, 1972 MEMORANDUM FOR: JEB MAGRUDER FROM: DWIGHT L. CHAPIN Why don't we follow up the Ted Williams' story in the Star tonight by having excerpts of it run in Monday. The other thing we ought to be able to do is get Sports Illustrated to run a box or something that says, "Williams Speaks Out" with an accompanying story. Williams always has been a controversial figure and we ought to be able to make a Sports Illustrated story legitimate. The other thing is to get Lloyd Shearer to answer a letter in his Parade magazine as to whether it's true that Ted Williams is strong for Richard Nixon, or something so that he can pick up this particular Item and use it In his column.
