MEMORANDUM
THE WHITE HOUSE
weno
WASHINGTON
15 December 1971
MEMORANDUM FOR CHARLES W. COLSON
FROM DOUG HALLETT DHH
From the November issue of California Journal:
" Republican Bill Brophy won a stunning upset victory November 16th
in the special election in the 48th Assembly district, overcoming a 62
percent Democratic registration advantage. Brophy received 16, 346
votes, or 46. 7 percent of the total cast; Richard Allatorre, his Democratic
opponent, received 14, 759 votes, or 42.2 percent; Raul Ruiz, a member
of the newly organized La Raza Unida Party, received 2, 778 votes, or
7.9 percent; and John W. Blaine, Peace and Freedom Party, won 1,108
votes or 3.2 percent,
"
Needless to say, the district is Mexican-American. I think it should
tell us something about what we ought to be doing with regard to La Raza
Unida Party, eh?
