Bell to Colson RE: Republican politics in Cook County, Illinois. 1 pg. Monday, November 15, 2010 Page 1 of 1 October 2, 1970 MEMORANDUM FOR LYN NOFZIGER You may recall that I talked to you about a friend of mine who wants to dispose of several television stations. He was down a few weeks ago and left with me a lot of information about these stations, which I am enclosing. If you know anyone who is interested, who is a friend of ours, let's put them together with Norman Knight. I have no interest in this other than it would always be nice to have these kinds of stations in the hands of friends. Knight is apparently desperate for cash and a hard deal could presumably be made. Let me know if you have any interest in pursuing this further and if so, I will have Knight come in and see you. Charles W. Colson Attachments. MEMORANDUM THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON November 23, 1970 MEMORANDUM FOR CHARLES W. COLSON SUBJECT: Illinois Politics Dick Wiley, our new General Counsel at FCC, was recently Committeeman of one of the most Republican townships in Cook County. He gives me a rather discouraging report regarding '72 prospects in Illinois. He suggests strongly that everything possible be done to get to Rentschler and get him back on the team stopping his harassment of Ogilvie, and that we do everything possible to avert primary candidates for Ogilvie, Scott and Percy. He feels we lost because Rentschler scarred up Smith very badly in the primary giving the Democrats more than enough ammunition, Smith ran a very negative campaign that was poorly received, and Ogilvie is in deep trouble because of the income tax. Anything that can be done to brush up Ogilvie's image from its complete low ebb at this time will be most useful. B George T. Bell
