Wednesday, August 18, 2010 Page 1 of 1 THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON Administratively Confidential June 29, 1972 MEMORANDUM FOR: CHARLES COLSON THROUGH: HERBERT KLEIN FROM: CARLOS CONDE CDC Attached is the letter you asked me to track down. I ran into several roadblocks because McGovern people according to sources in his office are trying their best to keep this letter from getting wide cir- culation. Sources say the feeling is that he should not have written it, and they fear it will create controversy. The letter was made available to us by a Mexican correspondent. In comparing the letter to the news story that was written, please bear in mind the journalistic license taken by Latin correspondents. This has usually been their style. The letter makes no reference to Brazil, Cuba or Chile, but the story inferred this even to the extent of creating a quote. I will recheck again with my source to make sure we have the same letter which the news story refers to. My feeling and my experience tells me that it is, but I will confirm this.
