Friday, February 26, 2010 Page 1 of 1 allison mem February 24, 1970 MEMORANDUM FOR JIM ALLISON Attached is a story by Paul Hope from the Evening Star of February 23. I think excerpts from this used in the next issue of MONDAY would be good not because it mentions Harry Dent, but because it shows that this Administration and this National Committee are squeezing everything they can politically out of this Adminis- tration to build the Republican Party. I particularly call your attention to that part which refers to the expansion of the National Committee under Nixon as contrasted to the contraction by LBJ. This was called to Mr. Houge this morning and he didn't cotten to it because he thought it would appear that we are blowing our own horns. I wonder what he thinks MONDAY is all about? I wonder what he thinks PR is all about? Harry S. Dent Attachment bc: Frank Leonard THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON DETERMINED TO BE AN ADMINISTRATIVE MARKING E.O. 12065, Section 6-102 By chmfnars, Date 6/15/81 February 3, 1970 CONFIDENTIAL MEMORANDUM FOR HARRY S. DENT From: Jack A. Gleason X Re: Election, 1970 -- legal research. Harry, Per your request, I am attaching herewith a memo from you to Jim Allison requesting some assistance on legal research. I do this, however, with two very serious caveats; A. By making this request to the National Committee, we will in effect be assuring a still wider break in security surrounding this operation, and B. The General Counsel to the Republican National Finance Committee is Roemer McPhee, whom I personally find attractive, but I am somewhat skeptical of his extremely conservative approach to interpreting the law. Like many lawyers, he is an expert on telling you what you cannot do, which in this case would not be especially helpful. If, however, you are satisfied on the above two points, I suppose there is no reason not to go to the National Committee with this request per the attached memo.
