Thursday, December 11, 2014 Page 1 of 1 May 28, 1969 MEMORANDUM FOR CONGRESSMAN MORTON We have been told over here that Howard Hughes is getting ready to establish a bigger foundation than the Ford Foundation for assisting the Left Wing in this country. He is supposed to have a key advisor who is responsible for this. If we can figure any angles for stopping this, we had better start figuring. Harry S. Dent bc: Jim Allison Roger Milliken Colonel Charles West, with this note: Are we absolutely sure about this? If so, I want to mention it to the President. OFFICE MEMORANDUM Republican National Committee CONFIDENTIAL Date: 5/6/69 To: DETERMINED TO BE AN Harry Dent ADMINISTRA. IVE MARKING From: Jim Allison E.O. 12056, Section 6-102 By CRmf NARS, Date 6/17/81 Subject: Father McManus Dick Garbett has talked to Father McManus at length and presently is dis- cussing with the Father and Tom Melady plans to attract more Catholic vote. We think highly of him. About a month ago, the Father made a suggestion to the Administration regard- ing the honoring of four new Cardinals. We sent this suggestion to the White House under a cover letter from the Chairman. John Sears delivered our letter and Father McManus' suggestion up the chain of command and reported to us that no action was taken on the suggestions and no reply given the Chairman's letter. John can fill you in on details. warr JA/jof THE WHITE HOUSE DETERMINED TO BE AN WASHINGTON ADMINISTRATIVE MARKING E.O. 12065, Section 6-102 May 5, 1969 Be this By 12mg NARS, Date 6/17/81 CONF DENT MEMORANDUM FOR JIM ALLISON tilling 3'd FROM: HARRY DENT I had a visit today with the Reverend Martin McManus, a Catholic priest who has 9 earned college degrees, three of them being doctorate degrees. He is an old friend of the President and once ran for Congress himself. Attached is full information on him. He wants to find some way to help us privately to win Catholic votes for the President. He is presently a visiting professor at Trinity College and stays at St. Matthews Cathedral, 1725 Rhode Island Avenue, N. W. His telephone number is 347-3215. I suggest you talk with this gentleman before we go to Key Biscayne this weekend so you and I can discuss him there. He says he knows Peter Flanigan, and I am sending Peter a copy of this so he can let me know if there is anything good or bad we should know. Also, Don Jackson, a close friend of the President and a new member of the ICC, sent Father McManus to me with a very high recommendation.
