MEMORANDUM
THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
February 10, 1970
CONFIDENTIAL
MEMORANDUM FOR JOHN EHRLICHMAN
The February 9 News Summary reported that a poll of Negroes
living in urban areas places Julian Bond first among possible
black candidates for President. 27% selected Bond. 23.5% chose
Reverend Abernathy, 17% Wilkins, 12% Powell, and 12% Brooke.
On reading the above the President noted that Brooke is too
responsible for them. This shows why they talk alright
privately and then lash out in public.
