Dear Mr. Haldeman:
Since you became Honorary Manager of the Plaza, I must say things
have improved. Your inspired leadership and quiet direction
behind the scenes are obviously responsible for the improved
morale of the staff and resultant finer service to our guests.
Even more important is the increased staff--ME.
You see, the truth is that YOUR SECRETARY here at the Plaza, Pat
Humbert, is blonde and terribly good-looking; so much so, in
fact, that your secretary at home may become alarmed. I have
therefore been appointed as your home secretary's private Morale
Enhancer. If you can have a Secretary at the Plaza, so can that
busy lady who works so hard for you in your own office.
I have enclosed my business card, which is actually for your
secretary. Please tell her that I can do anything for her that
Pat Humbert can do for you--and if Pat steps out of the office
for a minute, I might even have the good fortune to help you
personally.
Please start those cards and letters coming. I'm number 2 so I
try harder.
