PLEASE TREAT AS CONFIDENTIAL
MEMORANDUM FOR:
MR. HALDEMAN
On June 10th Harry Dent sent a memorandum to the President
concerning National Committeeman Tom Reed's warning that
Reagan could well become the "Eugene McCarthy of the Repub-
lican Party" after he is re-elected in 1970. The memo goes
on to say that Reed was referring specifically to the Reagan-
Finch feud and a probable near-future confrontation which
would in no way benefit the Administration. (The original
correspondence is in Elmer's file of red-checked memos.)
With reference to this general topic the President wants you
to talk to Bob Finch -- then give him a report as to how we
might best build a better bridge to Reagan.
