MEMORANDUM
THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
January 16, 1970
MEMORANDUM FOR H. R. HALDEMAN
In a January 13 article Jack Anderson reported that GOP governors
are beginning to show discontent over the President's failure to
maintain a close liaison with the GOP governors. They were
clearly annoyed that RN sent the Vice President to the governors
conference instead of going himself.
Upon reading this the President suggested that perhaps we had
better strengthen Dent with Chotiner on the governors hand
holding. He suggested that it be done on a man for man basis.
Governor Boe is obviously too weak and Vice President Agnew
is too busy with national issues.
He also noted that it is, of course, ridiculous to suggest that
RN go to every GOP governors conference. We should have made
this clear from the beginning - -- at least let's make it clear now.
But most important - fill the void with others who call them on
a regular hand holding basis.
