HALDEMAN JEB S. MAGRUDER In response to your memorandum of October 16, forwarded the in Arlington, Virginia. The purported purpose is in support of the Republican candidates in Virginia and Jimmy Allison indicated that the press conference had been cleared with Byrd. At that time, he is going to take on Chairman O'Brien regarding the points in your Talking Paper on Kennedy's campaigning during the 1962 elections plus the other points made in the paper. A question is going to be planted so that this statement can be discussed. He is speaking in Midland Texas at a Bush testimonial and has agreed to bring this subject up in the text of his remarks. He has also agreed to discuss it directly with O'Brien when they meet on Face the Nation on November 1st. We have also distributed this paper to the key White House spokesmen for their use in the campaign. CONFIDENTIAL
