Mrs. Alvin Hill Stryker 28 B Buckingham Drive Leisure Village Lakewood, New Jersey 08701 October 7, 1972 Dear Mrs. Wood: First thank you for your answer to my letter, yours arriving June 7th. I do not expect you to answer this note at this busy time. Maybe sometime later. I'm mailing clippings to you, from newspapers that disturbed me. It may be a waste of time but there might be something that President Nixon can use. I'm very concerned for New Jersey. Senator Case hasn't said, to my knowledge anything for President Nixon. We all vote for him because we don't want a democrate. Newark is all colored. What about Massachusetts? Many of us wrote to G. Meany. I told him I had eight women here for the day and we all felt he was very disrespectful to President Nixon. He hasn't answered as yet. I've written a number of letters and received answers to all of them. I saw McGovern and his play boy V.P. (hoping) and what awful things they are saying. Really they are on T.V. every day with something new. We got a quick glance of President Nixon with the newsmen, That was all. There are no stickers on cars, and I've only seen one for Page 2 McGovern and Wallace - on an old car. Buttons are beginning to show for P. Nixon. I belong to the Republican club in Lakewood; and it is quite a different class of people then in Bergen County, Englewood, where I lived and worked on the Rep. board. These Lakewood folks are all good Republicans, voting 4 more years, so I'm with them. Much is said about the Democrats coming in for P. Nixon, and we hear and read, Remember Dewey. Tell President Nixon the family picture is on my TV and I do entertain a good deal; so we have a round of politics , and all are for our President. My daughter and her husbend in Tenafly, N.J. are working again this year. They worry about crookedness at the poles. It's prevelent in some places. Lodi, Jersey City. We heard V.P. Agnew just for a few minutes on T.V. one eve this past week. Nothing is said where he is or where he will be next. I listen to the ten P. M. news , and then the Eleven P.M. News. Then while eating my breakfast I listen to the 8:30 A. M. news. Did I tell you I'm from Mass., and my Grandfather Sweet (Mother's father) played checkers with Teddy Roosevelt and worked always for Republicans. Outside of Williamstown Mass. there is a small place named Sweet's Corners, The Governor came over and named the small town Sweet's Corners after my grandfather in the 1890. Page 3 Station 4 T. V. is very careful how they spread the news. That Bill Monroe is also careful. He will ask a leading question. The rumor for yrs is that the station belongs to the Kennedys. I'm sending a small check to Washington Hwadquarters for the finance committee. I'm a widow and my eyes are bothering me, as my writing show, I hope you will forgive me for taking your time and if we never meet, May God Bless you and yours and may we have President Nixon for four more years. Sincerely, (Sg.) Mrs . Alvin Hill Stryker Just heard This eve a Rev. Matthews colored speaking for P. Nixon from Harlum , N.Y. Mrs. Alvin Hill Stryker 28B Buckingham Drive Leisure Village Lakewood, n.g. 08701 FYI October 24, 1972 MEMORANDUM TO: Bob Haldeman FROM: Rose Mary Woods Road Another call which I feel is important to pass along. A man - for whose opinion I have great respect - called to say the feeling he gets from quite a bit of traveling throughout the country is - as ours - that the President will win very big. However, he is greatly concerned if the Democrats have the Senate that they are going to put on the damndest investigation of the wheat business, Watergate, ITT, what-have-you, that we have ever seen. He suggests if it is possible that we take five million dollars of this money and use it to take over the Senate. He feels there must be spots where we could get real results and provide the President with the Senate so Kennedy and the others could not immediately start hearings to try to discredit the great job the President has done.
