Strachan is putting together a list of any others on the White House staff who worked directly in the campaign that should also be included. This should not include any Domestic Council or NSC people, only White House Staff people who were directly involved in the campaign. LH:pm December 6, 1972 MEMORANDUM FOR : STEVE BULL FROM : L. HIGBY Bob has requested a complete follow up report from you on the election memento situation. This would be a breakdown as to cost, etc. Will you please make sure that you are following up on this? HIGBY Bob asked that you check with Ed Nixon and determine what his personal plans are and what his interest might be in serving in some capacity, perhaps with the Nixon Foundation. Would he be willing to move to Southern California or is he determined to stay in the Northwest? Also, he would like you to check with Don Kendall to see if he has any feeling on how Ed Nixon could best be utilized. Would he be good at the Foundation or should be be doing something else. HIGBY SUBJECT : Harry Dent Phone Call Re: Counsel at RNC Harry Dent called me informing me that both AP and UPI had called him last night on a story they had that Dent would be named Counsel at RNC. The story quoted sources at the Republican National Committee and contained in it information known only to Dole. Dent is convinced that Dole leaked this. His response to both inquiries was that he had not discussed this matter at all with Bush or the President and had not been asked by either one of them to serve in that position. That was all he had to say. LH:pm HIGH PRIORITY December 14, 1972 MEMORANDUM FOR : H.R. HALDEMAN FROM I L. HIGBY SUBJECT # Ed Nixon John Dean reports that he had a very successful conversation with Ed Nixon and that Ed wants to go to work for the Foundation on the basis I previously described to you. Ed feels it is necessary that someone make a public presentation to the Board of Trustees at the Foundation regarding site selection. He would like to do this and suggest it be done some time around the 17th of January while all of them will be back here for the Inaugural. Ed has pictures of all the sites and feels he could do a very good pre- sentation. He is very much in favor of the San Clemente site. After that he would like to start working fulltime on the Foundation. He feels that there is a lot of work to be done in terms of gathering materials, visiting other libraries, doing hand-shaking, fund-raising, speaking, etc. He also indicated Julie would be very interested in working on this. HIGBY Will you please check with Clark MacGregor and Fred Malek and find out who our 20 best state chairmen were and make sure we follow up with them in some nice way to show how much we appreciated their work.
