MEMORANDUM FOR:
H. R. HALDEMAN
FROM:
BRUCE KEHRLI
Attached is a request for advice on a request for the
President to contribute to the United Negro College Fund,
Inc. Rose Woods feels that there may be some PR value
to contributing to a Negro organization such as this one.
Checking the record of previous contributions:
1967 and before - Rose Woods did not have the
records but thinks that the President did
contribute.
1968 - $500 contribution.
1969 - Request for funds turned down because "the
many deserving requests that come in from all
over the country make it impossible to respond
to each and every one -- the President and Mrs.
Nizon have adopted a firm rule of declining
solicitations other than those to which they are
already committed."
1970 ⑉ A request for a one day personal solicitation
of the staff by the President was turned down.
1971 - ?
RECOMMENDATION:
That you sign the attached memo to Rose Woods indicating that the
request should not receive any special attention. I think you will
agree that there is no political mileage to be gained from catering
to the Black vote -- especially on something as minor as this.

MEMORANDUM FOR:
ROSE WOODS
FROM:
H. R. HALDEMAN
SUBJECT:
The Attached Request for
Funds from the United Negro
College Fund, Inc.
This should be handled as any other request of this kind.
Although there would be some public relations benefit to
contributing to an organization such as this, by setting a
precedent here - we would be open for criticism from other
groups that were just as worthy.

List of Films
About a month ago you received a list of films that were going to
be available on short notice for use at Camp David. Have you had
a chance to look these over and if so, do you have any requests?
There is no rush on this -- just wanted to let you know that the system
is set up to procure these films with about three to four day's lead time.
If you will indicate which films you would like to see, we can arrange to
have two or three of themest the Camp whenever necessary.

MEMORANDUM FOR:
JON HUNTSMAN
FROM:
BRUCE KEHRLI
SUBJECT:
Mailing of Parchment
Paper Certificates
In answer to your questions to this mailing:
1. The project was requested by the President in
November right after the elections.
2. The parchment certificates were approved at
that point and the delay resulted because certified
lists of winning and losing Republicans were not
available.
3. These lists, obtained through the RNC, arrived
last month and the mailing was completed.
4. There were no cover letters involved so the
certificates went out strictly as amementos.
5. As for the fact that a quote was sent to Representa-
tive Robert Corbett who is deceased, this was obviously
a mistake on our part by not checking the lists.
6. While I believe Mr. Timmons was consulted initially,
our error was in not keeping him informed on the progress
of this project.
I hope this explanation is sufficient as you were obviously not
aware of this mailing -- a project that started long before you
came aboard.

MEMORANDUM FOR:
CONNIE STUART
FROM:
BRUCE KEHRLI
SUBJECT:
Press Clippings Pertaining
to the Wedding
Per our conversation I am returning the folder of press
clippings pertaining to the wedding. Mr. Haldeman was
only interested in the clippings that resulted from the two
pictures of the girls in Tricia's gowns so there is no need
to put together this type of folder for him.
I think the confusion resulted from the fact that one of the
clippings of the picture of the junior bridesmaids was
forwarded to me from Mort Allin along with a note forwarding
it to you, once Mr. Haldeman had seen it. This is the only
clipping that received such handling and Mort has been notified
that there is no need to see any additional coverage on this
particular story. Thus, with the exception of this one particular
clipping all coverage should have and will continue to reach you
through your normal channels.
Connie - am sorry if we inconviewed
you in any way.
B.
