Dear Bob:
In light of our talk on the 26th,
you may wish to get out a supplement to the
memo attached wherein you specify that all
requests of the type mentioned should go
through Gordon Strachan to the outside con-
tact.
This procedure will avoid the pro-
blems inherent in the situation where Chuck
Colson, Harry Dent, etc. would be making re-
quests di rectly to Hugh Sloan. Hugh should
deal only with Gordon.
Regards,
Hur
There is a misunderstandly here. I think
the requests should continue to be directed
to Hugh - that he should then clean the
three Fordon - saying no commitment can the
made pending approval- and not saying
Mr. H. R. Haldeman Where the approval

MEMORANDUM FOR:

FROM:
H. R. HALDEMAN
We have been creating a serious problem for ourselves
with contributors that needs to be solved immediately.
Staff members have been approaching some of our
contributors with individual requests for special projects
or requests on behalf of other individuals. It has become
very difficult to keep track of who has contributed what to
whom, and contributors have been complaining that they
don't know which requests are valid and should be honored.
From now on, any request that you want to make for funds
from any of our outside people, should be relayed through
Hugh Sloan. Hugh has been designated as the central
point of contact and should handle any matters of this type.
All of our contributors have been advised that they are
under no obligation to honor any requests that do not come
through this channel.
Please be sure that you adhere to this procedure in the
future.

THE RECORD
Telephone call with Herb Kalmbach. Two subjects were discussed:
1. Whether or not Garcia should receive a year end gift. Rose
will check the President directly on this and will get back to
Mr. Kalmbach.
2. How best to position Hugh Sloan and his secretary. Two
thoughts were considered; 1) the Olmstead Bank and 2) a
separate office at the RNC. Kalmbach thinks having a separate
office at the RNC would be best but this issue should be settled
while Herb is back here.

MEMORANDUM FOR :
MR. KALMBACH
We should move hard probably right after the Fall
elections on Mrs. Ahmanson, Mark Taper, and Norton
Simon for very large contributions. The President
talked with all three of these people at the music
center affair in Los Angeles and while Taper at least
has been supporting the other side - there's a real
possibility that he could be persuaded to move to our
side or at least cover that base also.
Also, Joseph Klepfli should be checked out as to
his donor potential.

Items:
1. Derge has been handled.
2. I've talked to both Don and his employer
and from the info received I don't anticipate any prob-
lems on the two items we discussed. I think it's a plus
that they know of our continuing concern.

Dear Bob:
As I told you when we talked in your office on Fri-
day last, Judge Thurmond Clarke is seriously 111.
He and Athalie are staying at their house in Corona
del Mar (4633 Brighton Road) and can be reached by telephone
at (714) 673-5788.
Thurmond and Athalie have long been loyal supporters
of the President and I know that at this particular time a
phone call would be warmly received.
Best regards,
Hur
