MEMORANDUM FOR:
DWIGHT L. CHAPIN
FROM:
TERRY O'DONNELL
SUBJECT:
John David Lodge
The attached memo from Alex Armendariz sets forth in my
estimation, some good reasons why we should not use
Ambassador Lodge as a surrogate.
Lodge speaks strict Castilian Spanish, and Alex tells me that this
is not appreciated by the average Spanish speaking American. This
further substantiates the image problem which Alex outlines in
the third paragraph of his memo.
Based on what I have learned about Lodge, I would recommend that
we do not use him as a surrogate in an American Spanish-speaking
environment.
