Dear Mr. Lofton:
Though a Democrat, I am a regular reader of Monday, finding
the newwletter often annoying but always informative. This week's
issue was no exception with its criticism of Senator Jackson's
position on the Vietnam War. I, too, find the Jackson stance to
be hypocritical though I would say also that the Senator has yet
to convince this liberal.
Anyway, as one passionately opposed to Jackson's nomination,
I thought I would provide you with a little additional ammunition
in case the Senator gets any more dovish in the days ahead. Enclosed
you will find a copy of a 1967 speech given by Jackson in which the
Senator even advocates the bombing of Haiphong harbor. We have
more up-to-date material also convering the Senator's stance in
support of President Nixon's policies as late as last year. In
a sense, the enclosure is just a sample.
I would also direct your attention to the November issue of
the New Democrat, in which I have an article which lays bare the
Jackson temperment. Again we have material, and again I would
offer it to you. It's unholy for me to do this I know, but then
again stranger alliances have been formed in the arena of politics.
So, let me know if you would like additional material on the
"Senator from Boeing", and please specify what sort of research
you would like.
With Best Wishes,
Joel R. Connelly

Dear Mr. Buckley:
You may not have seen the enclosed news item which appeared in
the Washington Evening Star. Considering recent events, I found
the article entertaining, and I am sure you will too.
Indulging my worst instincts, I decided to write what I consider
could have been a very plausible account of this incident.
I am sending it along for your reading, and if you wish to use it,
I would only request that I remain anonymous.
With best regards.
Cordially,
Kenneth L. Khachigian
