And you publicly endorsed the Black Caucus program,\nwhich contains that $6500 proposal. The Senate Finance Committee\nhas estimated that this would cost $64 billion dollars. Where would\nyou find the money?\nSenator: The Sem te Finance Committee estimates that your $1000\nper person welfare plan would put 97 million Americans on welfare,\nand cost $52 billion dollars. Where are you going to get that kind\nof money, without a massive increase in taxes along the board?\nSenator: Mr. Eagleton, on Face the Nation, indicated that your\nDemocratic proposals would likely require a tax increase by 1974;\nis this in addition to the proposed new taxes you would ask of\nCongress in 1973?\nSenator: Is not your recommendation to \"regulate marijuana along\nthe same line S as alcohol, 11 a program for the legalization of\nmarijuana for the rich?\nSenator: Does not your position that \"abortion is a private matter\nwhich should be decided by a pregnant woman and her own doctor\"\nmean your support for repeal of all state abortion laws?\nSenator: You told the New York Times you would reverse the\nPresident's order restricting abortions in military hospitals. Is\nthis not in contrast to what you have said Presidential action,\nfederal action, that is pro-abortion on demand?\n-2-\nISRAEL\nSenator: How can you square your commitment to cut the Navy in\nhalf and the carrier fleet down from 15 to 6 -- how can you possibly\ndeter the Soviets in the Middle East, with that kind of slash in the\nchief deterrent to aggression in the Middle East?\nDEFENSE\nSenator: Your defense cuts would chop the Navy in half, the Marine\nCorps by a third, U.S. troop strength in Europe 180, 000, knock out\nthe F-15, the F-14, the B-1 bomber. Do you consider all these\nweapons systems as \"fat\" in the military budget -- or are they\n\"muscle\" and \"fibre\" as Senator Humphrey stated?\nSenator: On several occasions you have compared the President\nwith Adolph Hitler, and American policy in Asia with Hitler's\ncampaign to exterminate the Jews. Let me quote you: \"I've said\nmany times that the Nixon bombing policy on Indochina is the most\nbarbaric action that any country has committed since Hitler's effort\nto exterminate Jews in Germany in the 1930s. 11 Isn't that a smear\nof the President?\nBuchanan\ncc:\nKen Khachigian"
