MEMORANDUM FOR H. R. HALDEMAN
FROM: HERB KLEIN
I talked with Jimmy Stahlman yesterday and he feels that he
cannot run the suggested editorial on the Gallup Poll this
week because of the upcoming Tennessee primary elections
Thursday. He is deeply involved in them on both the Republican
and Democratic sides. He feels that with some re-writing
he can use the ideas in Pat Buchanan's editorial and again
indicated a willingness to do this, but not until afterthis
week.
As you know, there is only so far you can push a publisher,
even though he is friendly. In view of all this, I plan to
go ahoad with a wide mailing which includes the poll, the
Dallas Times Herald editorial and the William S. White column
of last week discussing the President taking government to
the people. We will proceed on this basis unless I hear other-
wise.
