MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
Billy Graham called, said be had been with President Johnson during
the weekend at the ranch. Walter Cronkite was also there for one
day. He believes that Mr. Johnson nov has recovered from leaving
office and made the adjustment necessary so be takes the attitude
that be is above politics, meuh as was General Eisenbower. Billy
said that in a number of conversations Mr. Johnson expressed
himself in support of you and took pride in mentioning the fact
that be had helped get a few Democratic votes on the surtax.
Dr. Grabam fells that Mr. Johnson now is becoming more conservative
again.
During the converstation, Dr. Grabam got the impression that the
former President would like very much to be invited to Cape
Kennedy to see the blast-off. As you know be will be doing a
commentary on the moon shot on CBS on July 20. I would not be
particularly in favor of such an invitation except for the fact
that be will be on the air anyway. This might mean more favorable
comment by Mr. Johnson and would avoid any indication that he had
been slighted.

MEMORANDUM
TO THE PRESIDENT
In connection with your letter to Harold Bell, the
former Burning Tree caddy, as you know, we leaked
a copy of the correspondence to the Star, which
responded by running it on page 1 of all its editions.
I am sending copies of the correspondence and pictures
to Black press and to twenty friendly sports columnists,
who may want to use excerpts as to what a caddy can do.
I also gave an item about this in advance to Irv
Kupcinet in Chicago.
