Dent There is a report that Graphic Press, a printing company out of the Raleigh-Dumham area has turned an unpaid bill from Commissioner Fred Steele's 1968 Congressional campaign over to a collection attorney. Jack Hawke, the GOP candidate in the old Steele district this year, has one of the best chances for a GOP pickup and is one of our priorities. Hawke was Steele's campaign manager in 1968. The attorney for Graphic has talked with Hawke and has been trying to talk to Steele, threatening to file suit against Steele and Hawke unless a settlement is negotiated. Obviously we should try and avoid any legal action. The amount in question is small, the supplier will compromise, but there have been indications all along that Steele can't seem to get interested. This is eminent and potential embarrassment. Perhaps your counsel's office could call Steele in and see if it can be worked out.
