MEMORANDUM FOR:
HARRY DENT
FROM:
CHARLES COLSON
UNR
I would hope that someone here is keeping in close liaison
with Clay Meyers, the Republican Secretary of State, Oregon.
He will make a decision, as you know, next spring whether
to put Ted Kennedy's name on the Oregon primary ballot.
The decision is solely his, but he certainly should not make
it without some consultation with us. It may be, for example,
that we will not want Kennedy on the ballot, or if he looks
like the easier man to beat we may want him. In any event,
the decision should not be made by Meyers, but by us. I
would hope that perhaps through Bob Dole that we could keep
some control over this.
