Millspaugh Box Number: 1 Folder: Meyers, Clay Document Disposition 34 Return Private/Political THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON EYES ONLY May 25, 1971 MEMORANDUM FOR: HARRY DENT FROM: CHARLES COLSON UNR I would hope that someone here is keeping in close liaison with Clay Meyers, the Republican Secretary of State, Oregon. He will make a decision, as you know, next spring whether to put Ted Kennedy's name on the Oregon primary ballot. The decision is solely his, but he certainly should not make it without some consultation with us. It may be, for example, that we will not want Kennedy on the ballot, or if he looks like the easier man to beat we may want him. In any event, the decision should not be made by Meyers, but by us. I would hope that perhaps through Bob Dole that we could keep some control over this.
