M. Woods [3 of 3, July/December] Document Disposition 43 Return Private/Political September 11, 1972 MEMORANDUM FOR BOB HALDEMAN FROM ROSE MARY WOODS Road Jack Porter called this morning to say "I need to see the President for a few-minutes." I explained that I had nothing to do with the President's schedule and wanted to refer him to Dwight Chapin or David Parker. He said, "No, I don't know anyone but you SO will you give the President a note telling him that I need to talk with him about the political situation in Texas." I promised that I would pass the information on to the people who have the responsibility for his schedule. He again said please give a note to the President. After this conversation, he said "I think the President is doing a great job. It is the toughest job in the world. I think he will go down in history as one of our great Presidents." Would you please call him - or have someone very high up call him. He can be helpful but if he is terribly unhappy he can cause trouble too. He was very pleasant and friendly on the telephone but I don't want to upset any applecarts at this time. THANKS. Jack Porter's address is: 1111 Houston Club Building, Houston, Texas 77002 and the telephone number is 713/523-8795.
