O'DONNELL SUBJECT: Rose Mary Woods My office and Barbara Franklin's have actively solicited Rose's participation in any number of events. Unfortunately, but for apparently legitimate reasons, we have received nothing but "too busy" responses. She can be used in any number of forums and media possibilities, but we must have her available. As an example of a perfect situation for Rose, we had the oppor- tunity to place her before the National Secretaries Association Annual Meeting in Chicago between July 23-30. Her response was simply that the demands of her job here at the White House would not allow such an activity. Accordingly, to submit a proposed plan listing target media centers or specific cites is really superfluous if its done before we know that she knows shh's available. I have literally hundreds of invitations in key states and others pending in my office, any one of which would be good for her. I think that perhaps it might be wise for Mr. Haldeman or someone of like stature to sit down with her and explain that she will be expected to get out on the stump during the campaign. Another alternative might be for me to route any suggestions or invita- tions I have for Rose through your offices so that Mr. Haldeman signs off on each one. CC: Bruce Kehrli N.2 To 7/6 TO BE AN ADMI. June 28, 1972 E.O. By ylw 1/3/83 CONFIDENTIAL/EYES ONLY MEMORANDUM FOR VAN SHUMWAY It is felt that there is a weakness in McGovern's campaign when he continues to talk about his computer operations and how he runs his various programs through the computer and how he's using computers for all kinds of campaign activities. It is strongly felt that our line should be exactly the opposite in all cases and that we should not put out any information on our computer operations, either at the RNC or 1701. We should promote the fact that we are using people, massive numbers of volunteers and we're personalizing our effort rather than depersonalizing it through computers. It is very important that we not get into a discussion of computers or our operations in any fashion or reveal to the press any of our activities in this area. Dick- W. Richard Howard CC: Mr. Kehrli
