DESCRIPTION: The house, which overlooks a lake, has three bedrooms, and will comfortably sleep five people. The living room has a fireplace. FURNISHINGS: The house is equipped with stove and refrigerator, dishes, cooking utensils, tableware and linens. SUPPLIES: It is suggested that food be taken from Washington; however, it can be purchased in either Woodbridge or Triangle. August 1, 1971 FACT SHEET GOOD LUCK LODGE CATOCTIN MOUNTAIN PARK LOCATION: Good Luck Lodge is located in Catoctin Mountain Park, 3 miles west of Thurmont, Maryland. To reach the park, from Washington, D. C., take Interstate Route 70S (exit 17 or 19 from Capital Beltway) to Frederick; U. S. 15 to Thurmont; and west on State Route 77 to park headquarters. Please check in at the Visitor Center. The key you will be given also unlocks the gate to Camp Greentop. DESCRIPTION AND FURNISHINGS: The lodge has four sleeping areas, which will accommo- date 7 persons. Beds are all singles. Mattresses, mattress covers, pillows and plastic pillow covers are supplied. You may bring sheets, pillowcases, blankets, and towels. (See * below under "charges.' ") The kitchen is all electric, with an adequate supply of cooking and eating utensils. The bath has a tub- shower, with plenty of hot water. You must bring food, soaps, and paper products. The park does not employ a charlady. CHAPIN SUBJECT: Polling Information I think an issue should be made of our trying to obtain polling information from the second wave. Last Saturday a memorandum was sent over from 1701 to your office which contained the information we need for proceeding with some schedule planning and trying to get a good feel as to the situation in various parts of the country and where we should concentrate. That information was sorted through and on Monday was put into different form. On Tuesday we met with Teeter who had some sheets of paper with him but we were not allowed to get hold of these pieces of paper. We ended the meeting, hoping to get within the next day or so a written description of the polling information, or at least figures so we could interpret them ourselves. Before noon yesterday the information was delivered from 1701 to your office and so far it has not shown up here. We are doing some rough campaign plans so as to spark some comment from you and give you some materials to work with should the President want to start talking about the campaign. We can't get our work done because we can't get the information. It's a little disconcerting to feel the massive screening process has to take place prior to my getting the information. Using all of the buses around the First Family entrance area to guard against bombs is something you should challenge. It just doesn't sound right to me. (Walker) 6. George Smith will design a special front for the Presidential box. we should see a drawing of that for Timmons and others to approve. The red carpet should lead down the aisle to the box and it should be the entrance to the Cabinet boxes also. In the Presidential box use arm chairs. The blue ones like on the floor will work. TIMMONS SUBJECT: White House Personnel Attending the Republican National Convention Attached is a list of White House personnel assigned to you whom I propose attend the Convention. The number of staff unfortunately must be limited due to budgetary, transportation and room constraints. The tone of the Convention is serious and working. Consequently, I must ask for your cooperation in keeping the number of White House personnel attending the Convention to a mimimum. The White House staff, Cabinet and Administration officials, and the Re-Election Committee staff will reside at the Doral-on-the-Ocean in Miami Beach. The Committee has contracted with Eastern Airlines for three chartered flights to Miami on the following dates: August 11th, August 18th and August 19th. The departure date for each staff member is indicated on the attached list. They should plan on arriving not later than 9:30 a.m. at the Washington National Airport, Page Terminal, using the Commuter Entrance at the south end of the facility. A motor pool will operate at the Doral from August 11th. Beginning August 18th in the Doral we will have a staff mess, serving three meals a day. Prior to the 18th, authorized staff members will be given a small per diem allotment from the Re-Election Committee for meals. Hotel rooms have been prepaid. However, all other charges and incidentals must be the responsibility of each individual staff member. Convention tickets will be provided. Secretaries and some other staffers will have to share rooms, therefore we are not encouraging spouses to attend. If you concur, will you please notify all those on the attached list. The Supervisors of Elections, Absentee Ballot Division (424-6265) advised that they will send absentee registration forms to me at the White House for you and Ken Cole. Once the absentee registration form is completed and received, an absentee ballot is transmitted to you. Therefore, it will not be necessary for you to register in person or vote in person. I will "airmail - special" Ken's registration form to him in California, If he fills it out immediately and sends it to the proper address, he will have no problem in registering. 4.
