Dear Dwight,
The Sain & see -
Thank you for your letter of September 1st and for passing the informat
along on Mr. Benjamin F. Dillingham. I have tried to call you several
times and have just asceftained that you are in Europe. Could you

please call me upon your return as I would like to discuss this with you.
The parties involved here are interested as to who this information
was passed to and what procedure should be taken now. As I think I
mentioned to you previously, we wanted some reaction as to his
acceptability without going through Hiram or to my boss, V. Thomas
Rice. This was and is at the request of the National Committeeman
and I felt that you would be the best source for this along with
Nicky. To date I have not heard from Nick and am unable to locate
him.
Please call me either at home (923-4489) or my office (538-1136) as
soon as possible.
Best regards and I hope that you had a good trip to Europe. Give my
best to Susie, too.
Cordially,

Dear Mike:
You were great to send me the information on possible
excursions from the Miami area. Perhaps we will be able
to take advantage of your suggestions on one of our trips
to the area.
I have checked on the status of the request for a message
ME'1/5
to be sent to Mr. Carl Spitz for his testimonial dinner on
November 6th and by how, I am sure Mr. Harris has been
contacted and has learned that it will not be possible.
Thanks for filling me in on the happenings on the Coast.
Hope all is well.
Give Bart, Phil, Terry, Rc. my best.
Sincerely,

The request for a message in this particular case
Mr. Dwight Chapin
has been turned down by Eliska Hasek's Office
Special Assistant to the President
The White House
for it just doesn't fit into any of the categories
Washington, D.C.
which would merit a presidential message.
Dear Dwight:
HARRIET
I can imagine that you are a bit travel-weary at the moment,
however I want to let you in on a little fun idea. I thought
you and Susan might have an opportunity to enjoy, particularly
since you are in the Miami area SO often.
Last month I had the opportunity of taking a half of a cruise
out of Miami on both of the enclosed vessels. One as far as
St. Thomas and the other as far as Kingston, Jamaica. Each
cruise took about three days and honestly, I felt I had been
away about ten days on each. The rates are reasonable and the
ships are clean and comfortable, the food delicious and it is
practically impossible to get ahold of you except by marine
telephone. The boats happen to leave Miami at 4:30 every
Saturday, which is why I thought it would fit into your sched-
uling if Susie is bugging you for some togetherness.
Out here on the western front, Reagan appears secure, however
Tunney is going to give Murphy a real battle for sure. In case
you were not aware, Karabian has decided against running for
Congress and is incumbent for his present Assembly seat.
There's an interesting request I am enclosing with this note,
which I hope you will look on as being more politically expedient
than as a favor.
Best to you, Susie and the girls.
