During the time that I held this position, I corresponded with you frequently either by letter or by phone in behalf of political matters affecting our Party as well as our State. I just wanted to drop you a note, and tell you how much I personally appreciated your help in furthering the cause of a two-party system in the State of Georgia. During my eighteen months' term, I was consistently and constantly impressed by the caliber of people that was involved in the Nixon Administration and in politically related matters having to do with his welfare. Chanin Deputy Presidential Assistant The White House Washington, D.C. Dear Sir, I have, for the past several years, been following your career with a great deal of interest. However, I'd never felt compelled to write you until I saw a picture of you seated next to Chou En-lai of Red China on the front page of the San Diego Union. I'm interested in you because at one time in your life you were my Sigma Chi pledge leader at the University of Southern California. I remember you mostly because I was admiringly astounded by your particular gift for speaking at such a young age. Your particular gift seems to have been very re- warding and, I for one, am proud to say that I knew you. I feel to that you are working for the best, hardest working, no nonsense president this country has ever had. I've never been politically minded in the nast, but I have strong feelings about President Nixon and am 100% convinced that he should be re-elected in 72. I'm currently employed by the J.C. Penney Co. as an assistant manager of one of the San Diego stores, so perhans I'll get a glimpse of you in 72. Keep up the good work and if you need someone to pass out campaign buttons in 72, let me know. Sincerely, GENERAL Ph." Republican National Committee. December 9, 1971 The Honorable Dwight L. Chapin Deputy Assistant to the President The White House Washington, D. C. Dear Dwight: We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to join us in visiting with representatives from all states who will attend the Republican National Committee's "Friends of Richard Nixon" seminar. + The National Committee will be hosting a reception the evening of December 15th from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Statler Hilton Hotel (South American Room) to provide all participants an opportunity to meet and talk with Congressional leaders and Presidential advisors. We feel that your attendance, even briefly, would add a great deal to the success of the seminar. Enclosed is a brief description of the "Friends of Richard Nixon" program. Please advise Nancy Blair (484-6735) if you will be able to attend. Sincerely, Bob Bah Dole Sincerely, Sincerely, Tom luce Tom Evans Anne Armstrong Dccept + Resret Dwight D. Eisenhower Republican Center: 310 First Street Southeast, Washington, D.C. 20003. (202) 484-6500. Republican National Committee. "FRIENDS OF RICHARD NIXON" The National Committee recently launched its program to meet the immediate need for developing state and local speakers to support the Administration before young audiences. We are planning a two-day Washington seminar at the Statler Hilton in December (14th and 15th) for the purpose of bringing approximately two elected officials from each state for discussions with chief Administration spokesmen. The officials will be chosen by state party leaders on the basis of their rapport with young people and their ability to effectively promote Administration policy within their states. The seminar is designed to stress issues, furnish the facts to support the President's achievements and to give the participants an opportunity to gain personal acquaintance with members of the Administration. Upon their return home, the participants will be active in scheduling speak- ing engagements before young audiences for themselves and in securing other youth-oriented speakers in their states. We at the National Committee feel very strongly that this program will be a major asset for the President and the Party. For a minimal invest- ment of time and funds, we can develop youth spokesmen and campaign contacts in the states that will complement present and future efforts. Early responses from state party leaders have been most enthusiastic. Dwight D. Eisenhower Republican Center: 310 First Street Southeast, Washington, D.C. 20003. (202) 484-6500. In addition, they will receive first hand briefings on the key issues which will most affect the young voters within their home states. I am enclosing a listing of speakers who plan to attend and a brief program description. If you are unable to attend the final reception, please contact Miss Lynn Sullivan at 484-6570.
