FG, Dear, down IN III
Dear Crawford:
Many thanks for your letter and for informing
me of my election to the Alumni Board of
Directors. It is indeed an honor to have been
chosen to be a member of the Board, and I
will be delighted to serve in that capacity.
At this time it appears my schedule will permit
me to be in attendance on November 6, and I
shall look forward to receiving additional
information regarding the scheduled meetings
and events.
With my best wishes, I am
Sincerely,
John W. Dean, III

STAUNTON MILITARY ACADEMY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Mr. John W. Dean, III

Dear John:
Some time ago I wrote to you inquiring about your
interest in being a member of the Staunton Military Academy
Alumni Board of Directors and received from you a favorable
reply. In the meantime, you asked about the structure of
the Association and the school's relationship to it in view
of the peculiar nature of the operation of SMA. Three members
of the Kable family still own the Academy and are on the
Board of Directors. However, the Alumni Association is a
body completely separate from the school in terms of operation,
finances, and, probably, purpose. The Alumni Association has
as its purpose the perpetuation of the Alma Mater and feels
an urgency to become effective immediately because of today's
attitudes towards military schools, military in general, and
institutions that are not compatible with the well known
permissiveness in today's society.
Our first Alumni Board of Directors was inaugurated
and met June 26, 1970. It has met several times since then
and will meet the last time November 5 in Staunton at the
time of the National Reunion. The new Board, consisting of
nine members, will be inaugurated and will meet some time
during the same weekend after the business meeting Saturday,
November 6. You have been elected on a proxy ballot by the
Alumni to be a member of the new Board. We would like to
hear from you at the earliest possible time regarding your
reaction to this and whether you will be able to attend the
reunion this year.
With very best wishes, I am
Sincerely yours,
Crawford moon

Dear Mr. Morris:
This is In response to your letter of March 14, 1972
requesting my opinion of Mr. William E. Casselman II
and his integrity and fitness for admission to the bar of

quite well, and I find his integrity, legal abilities, and
fitness for the practice of law to be beyond reproach. I
therefore heartly recommend him for admission to the
District of Columbia bar.
Sincerely,
