One of the best parts of this job\nis hearing from old friends from school and the service that\nI've lost track of.\nI don't recall seeing you in England but I was at Bungay with\nthe 446th in B-24s. I was on a lead crew and flew so seldom\nthat I was still there at V-E Day.\nI went back to UCLA and on to Stanford Law School. We got\nmarried in law school and I turned down California jobs and\nwent to Seattle where another attorney and I started a practice.\nWe got pretty well settled down there in 18 years and the move\nhere was quite a wrench for all of us.\nWe have 5 children -- 3 boys and 2 girls -- who this week are\nscattered all over the country from Alaska to California to\nColorado. Farly in the year\nT caught a TV newscast in which reference was made to a , John\nPhrlichman, advisor to the President' and T said to Janet that\ncen't be the same John Phrlichman T knew in the service - or could\nit'. After one of the national newsmamazines carried your picture\nI knew it had to be.\nWith the time passage of some 26-27 years, I cen't remember\nexactly when and where we were in the Air Force together but do recall\nthat it was in the Aviation Cadet program we met. You were a Navige-\ntor and : was a Combardier and I imagine we were grouped somewhere\nalong the line because of the alo abetical sequence of our lest names.\nT remember your home was in Santa Ana, Celif. and it was typical Army\nluck that you weren't assigned to the Cedet base these instead of to\nTexas. The erticle I read about you recently said you now lived in\nSeettle.\nI dug out my old Army foot-locker and went through some of\nthe old class books from pre-flicht, cunnery, etc., to see if it would\nidentify where we met but had no success. I did come scross an old\ndusty letter which you hai sent me from Davis-Monthen Field in Arizona\nwhen we were in crew training and I was at Colorado Springs on the way\nto being trans ferred to Mountain Home, Ideho. I also have a vague re-\ncollection of having biked over to your base in England but can't re-\nmember if you were in 17's or 24's. I was in the latter with the 93rd\n30 at Hardwicke. After losing my original crew after 11 missions I ro-\ntated to other lead crews until we were finally shot up over Hamburg on\nmy 20th and were interned in Sweden in Jan. 11.5. That, as you can well\nimagine, was a very lucky break.\nAfter the wer, I came back to Madison and \"inished my Senior\nyear et the TW in Marketing and Advertising. Went to work for a firm\nin Chicago and discovered after 8 short while that I didn't care for\nthe bi- city. Moved back to Medison and have been here ever since with\nTHE CAPITAL TIMES\nyou\nWisconsin Journal Nabbed Released Hostages =\ncome\nN\nG\nEVENING\nSUNDAY\nThe Madison Newspapers where I am Manager of National Advertising.\nAs you can see from the enclosed copy of our Christmas\ncard from last year, Janet and I are kept from having much idle\ntime by trying to raise our femily of 5 sons. Believe me when I\nsay it's a challenge !\nEnough of my autobiography, John. I know from daily\npress stories how busy your life must now be.
