Dear Mr. Slane:
John Ehrlichman has asked me to reply to your letter
of October third inviting him to appear in several cities
in Ohio.
At the present time it to difficult in commit to a definite
date for M:, Ehrlichman due to the fact that his schedule
in dependent on the President's travel schedule, Since
Mr. Ehelichmen travels with the President, 1 doubt that
he will be nile to campaign separately in Ohio, However,
your letter has been sent to Mr. Fort Porter, Director
of Schedultug at the Committee to Re-aiget the President,
You should DO hearing from Mr. Forter in the near
future.
Sincerely yours,

Dear John:
Thank you so much for the courtesy and the friendliness you displayed
at the signing in Philadelphia the other day. I am getting my survey
together, but I thought perhaps you should read the attached editorial.
It was in the Delta Democrat Times. As you may recall, this paper is
the one Hodding Carter operated. It is a Pulitzer Prize paper. Please
take time and read it over.
I am working hard for the two-party system, and : am being as tough
as this campaign needs me to be. Most important, J. am the key spokes-
man for the President in this state and have made the people understand
the politics of this campaign. I will continue to play this role. The
last few days of this campaign are critical. If there is something
that could be done to demonstrate respect for my candidacy, it would
be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Gilbert E. Carmichael

Dear Val:
Thank you very much for your letters of October 25.
O.C.
I appreciate your expression of concern over the cam-
paign in Congressman Fisher's district and I will bring
it to the attention of those staff members most directly
involved.
Also, many thanks for your thoughts on the Winter-
Berger book, which as you can imagine, I have not had
i chance to read. I'll keep your ideas in mind when X
do get the opportunity.
Best personal regards.

My dear John:
I tried desperately and to reach you on the phone while you were here in
Seattle. I am sorry I was unsuccessful.
I am enclosing a Seattle Times clipping. If there should be any fact in
this, please let me know as soon as you make the decision. I would tour
the state in your behalf and expose the fellow I have always felt was
a fraud: Magnuson.
I will be in Washington in about the middle of February of next year and
would like to have the opportunity to visit with you.

The conversation I had hoped to have with you over a
personal matter isn't necessary now. I thank you for trying to reach
me as you did. I appreciate your consideration. If you are curious
about all this, check with Peter Flanigan who is aware of what I
had in mind. Thanks again.
