Attention: Mr. Tod Hullin Dear John: I understand that Barbara Schlag, of the Young Republicans of King County, has invited you to be the featured speaker at their luncheon either March 3rd or 5th in Seattle. As you know, the Young Republicans are a hard working campaign team, and made a substantial contribution to the last election suc- cess. Dear Mr. Ehrlichman: On behalf of the Snohomish County Republican Central Committee, "Greetings 1" Sounds like a draft notice but I understand that is all over with. However, you might consider this a draft notice as you read on. In fact we are issu- ing a single draft call of sorts with only one number and you are it ! On March 17th of this year the Snohomish County Republicans are having their Lincoln Day Dinner. The affair is scheduled for 8 p.m. to be preceded by a no-host cocktail hour commencing at 7 p.m. All of this will take place at the South Everett Holiday Inn. Theevent is firm, the date is tentative. We are hinging everything on your answer. Needless to say, we would like to have you as our keynote speaker. As you are aware, Snohomish County and the City of Everett is "Scoop" Jackson country. Yet, there are Republicans out there in the tules. We've managed to elect some to the state legislature this past election year but have been rather unsuccessful at the county and national level. Money, among other things, is a prime factor. That is what this dinner is all about. Two things have prompted us to contact in respect to keynoting the dinner. Firstly, your position on the President's staff and outstanding contributions to the nation's economic comeback. Secondly, and frankly, it is rumored that you are a very possible candidate for U. S. Senator in the coming elections. That excites quite a few of us even more. Your name, experience and address to the dinner would help us to draw a good crowd and make money and would be great exposure for you. Also, this being my first time as chairman of an affair like this, I am unaware of the re- sponsibilities i.e.; financial responsibilities of the hosting group to- wards the guest speaker. In fact, no one on the Central Committee does. All ametuers, I guess. In your affirmative answer to this letter maybe you will enlighten me as to how or what we should reimburse you for. Thank you for your time inconsidering this request, Mr. Ehrlichman. We are looking forward to your affirmative answer. Again, may I note that the date is flexible to the point that we will build the dinneraround the first date you are available. Within a reasonable time, of course. Tanks again.
