Dent SUBJECT: Meeting with Governor Louie Nunn, January 5, 1971 11:15 AM BACKGROUND: Nunn should be very cooperative as chairman of the Republican Governors Association. He has some private disillusionments with us, but he still talks to Dent as though he wants to help the President as much as ever. He is well liked by the Republican Governors and has a very easy and practical approach to making pro-Administration points with his colleagues. He wants to succeed Cooper in the U. S. Senate. However, his private concerns about 1972 have recently caused him to re-direct his thinking toward the Circuit Court of Appeals judgeship. Nunn is pleased that Lucy Winchester is now getting along so well in the White House. He and his brother, Lee, are not on speaking terms because of political disagreements. Lee feels Louie is responsible for Cook being in the Senate. This is a private meeting.
