MEMORANDUM FOR :
ALEX BUTTERFIELD
FROM :
H.R. HALDEMAN H.
Two items for long-range social calendar planning.
Sometime between the Chinese and Russian trips, the President
would like to go ahead with that World War II group reunion.
The planning on this should be worked out with Carl Fleps and
are
it should be put together as the 30th Anniversary of the President's
Graduation from Quonset in 1942.
Fleps
dscAT
He wants to have all of the Navy people, cut way down on the list
of flyers, and in the Quonset group, have just RN's platoon.
11
He wants to be sure to have the little captain.of Fleet Air Wing 8;
I think it's Peter Boyle. He also mentioned, I think, .Gurley, who
was the CO from Ottumwa, and Paul Williams should handle the
planning for the New York crowd.
The list should be boiled down to about 200 and they should be
invited for a reception at the White House without wives.
The arrival setup should be like that of an Ambassador presenting
credentials - that is, an Honor Guard along the driveway and per-
haps a band outside or something to really jazz it up as they arrive.
1
The second event will be a reunion of the law school class, some
Charlie
time in June after the Russian trip. This should be carefully
researched and Charlie Rhyne should take over all charge with
Rhyne
Dick Kiefer and Mack Holland working with him, The occasion
here will be that the 35th reunion of the law school class of 1937.
Reproduced at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum
2
The group should be expanded a little to include some of the
professors who were there at the time and also a few of the
members of the immediately adjacent classes, who might
have been close to the President personally.
